I am getting ready to order some Dana 44 flat top knuckles and high steer arms for my Dana 30 on my 83 CJ. I'm having a hard time finding the part numbers for the backing plates and calipers. I know they are Chevy 1/2 ton parts, but what model and year Chevy had them. And where is the best place to get them. Thanks.

Just get them from the junkyard. 73-up will work as long as you use everything from that same year. The calpers don't chainge but the spindles do so the bearing hubs do also.

Can't you just use the caliper mounting plates you can get from Tri-county or wherever? It mounts between the spindle and the knuckle and it allows you to use the stock calipers. When I called and asked they ran around 80.00 for the pair.

pull the stub shaft with the spindle so you dont have something that is the wrong length...
The Chevy stub shaft won't work with the Dana 30 inner nor the CJ locking hubs.
The Chevy spindle isn't necessary either. Just the Chevy caliper mounts and calipers.

So the CJ D30 inner C's are same as Chevy/FSJ D44's. Use FT knuckle and a spacer, reuse original CJ D30 outer components and shafts? Is this correct. Bearings, spindle, etc.. for the D30 can all be reused?

R&P 4wd in Portland, OR has some brackets from warn that will allow you to
use the stock calipers. they are like 75.00 set

[EDIT]
Found link to old thread http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1058
Chevy/FSJ Flat Top D44 knuckle will fit on CJ D30 axle yokes (inner C's/inner Knuckle). The D44 knuckles don't have the mounting holes for the CJ caliper braket so you either have to use the Chevy calpier plate and caliper (which gives you bigger brakes or buy an adapter plate like from these guys http://www.extremegearoffroad.com/store/product.php?productid=17541 . This will allow you to use all the stock CJ D30 stuff from spindles to brakes. I'm told some grinding may have to be done to the CJ caliper mounts, but nothing major.
