When I rebuilt my 79 D60 front it didn't have these things. But, one of my caliper pins(the things that slide in and hold the caliper in place) fell out going down the street. I got the parts at Napa and it's got the 2 slider pins but it also has this spring thing. It's about 5" long and kind of S-shaped. I think someone once told me it was an antirattle pin, but I don't know for sure. Can anyone tell me where this thing goes on the caliper.

The "anti-rattle clip" is a wierd looking shape, but not 5" long by any means. More like a 1" in size. Hard to explain. I have no pics of it. But it goes on the Brake pad (the smaller one) that sits on the caliper mount. It definately does NOT hold the caliper in place. Just keeps the one pad (smaller one) from rattling around.

Here is a pic I do have of the D60 caliper on what holds it in place. It's a " [ " type shape clip that points down and it inserted with the caliper mounter thingy (sorry, don't know the exact term:confused: ) and those are held on by an allen head screw. Here is a pic of me removing it....kinda hard to see the " [ " piece.

The " [ " piece could be about ~5" long, but it's more of a Bow shape than an "S" shape. I don't have a clue what that S piece is, but you probably don't need it. I don't have it and never had a problem. Just make sure the Allen head screw is nice and tight and the caliper should have no play in it when the "[" piece and the caliper holder thingy is in there :)

Thanks for the reply. I've got the pieces you're talking about. The "brake caliper parts kit" that I just bought has those two positioning things you're talkingabout. But, it also has this other thing. It is a good 5" long and I guess it's kind of shaped like a lightening bolt. Wish I had a digital camera. Well, it wasn't there when I tore it apart and I haven't had it for months so I guess I don't really need it. Thanks

Rob, that long s-shaped thing is an anti-rattle clip. It's super easy to install. It lays over the back of the pads and you should be able to install it w/the caliper in place (I think). I was gonna try to describe it but hopefully someone will just post a pic...

That funny shaped piece is a anti-rattle clip for use on a Ford dual piston caliper. The GM D-60 single piston does not use them, instead a small clip that goes on one of the pad tabs has mentioned.
