ok here's the deal guys. 95 yj 2.5L with most of the basics out of the way in terms of the jeep. lockers, lift, etc.... i have about a grand sitting around to toy with. this isn't much but i'm trying to pay bills while in college and still maintain its DD/ offroadability. wondering what you guys think i should do next.
A) scrap the 30/35 and get a junkyard 44/14FF and save up some more money to buy F150/waggy mix springs and go SOA.
B) 4:1 in the t-case
C)regear the 30 and throw a locked 44 in the rear while going SOA.
remember that this is a college budget and even though the jeep is already 'capable' i want it to be 'unstoppable'.
let the recommendations begin.

Well, there you go. Makes the decision even easier. That 14 bolt will hang too low with those tires.

when i first thought of swapping axles, i thought an 8.8 would be the best option. and then i started looking at how expensive those swaps are compared to 44 or 60 swap. so i guess my question would be if i eventually wanted to run a 36 or 37 in tire with the 2.5 L. do you think the 44 would be enough or should i nut up and go with the 60

What makes the 8.8 that much more expensive than a 44 or 60? You're running leaf springs already, so all you need is another set of spring perches to go SOA and maybe a different u-joint for the driveshaft. :confused:

I was in the same boat not too long ago. I had a 1995 YJ 2.5 on 38's w/ a dana 30 front 4.88's, Atlas 3.8 and a Scout 44 in the rear w/ 4.88's. Mine became a trailer queen after I broke a front axle and destroyed the Lock-Right in the process. I needed to make a change. I'm in the middle of a V-8 swap and dana 60 swap. If it were me, I would go with "C". It's your driver and I 'wheel with guys all the time that run 38's on a 30/44 setup. Carry extra fronts and don't beat on it.

8.8 in the rear. look around, should be able to find one for $150 or less. Lock it and regear both front and rear to 4.88. That'll eat up your money but it'll be well spent. If you have a super 35 kit already out back, then consider the 4:1 instead...
