My folks might be moving to Idaho and that means that my jeep will be moving with them. So far since I've had my jeep its been a garage queen, and now if they move to Idaho they are kicking my jeep out and going to let my spoiled @$$ sister park her f****** :mad3: :mad3: POS bug in the new garage. My mom thinks that its a good idea to get one of those plastic canopy cover things to park my jeep under, and she is trying to convince me that everybody in Idaho uses them for their jeeps.

I'm thinking no on the whole plastic canopy thing. I'm thinking about maybe building my own garage/shop for it so that I will have something with a hard top and sides to park my jeep under and to put the parts in as well, because I know I won't be able to put them in in the garage because my dumb@$$ sister will fawk with them :mad3: because she has already fu**** with parts in the garage now and her car isn't even in the garage.

So what I'm wanting is some pictures or ideas of some things that you guys might have built to park your rigs under for storage that you have built. I'm not thinking of anything fancy but something really basic kinda like a shed big enough to park a jeep in and store parts in.

deisletoy where is your handy dig cam??

he did a nice job on his. It was one of those metal car ports. He then added plywood on all the sides, and built a locking door also. simple but dose the job

Well, my homebuilt shop is two storys and parks four cars downstairs... Or did you mean smaller than that? :)

I meant just a little smaller than that :flipoff2: like maybe just a little bigger than an 87 YJ with a little room for parts and cleaners and stuff.

How much room is available?
How much do you want to spend?
What will your parents allow?

Originally I planed on a 10' x 12' "Garden shed" for the crap I didn't want in the shop. Long story, but it "grew" to 18' x 24' to allow for garden stuff, pool stuff, kid (RC car workshop) stuff. :flipoff2:

Brick front was to match the house, per our neighborhood restrictions.

Another shot... during construction.

If you want to WORK on the YJ, you really need 12' x 18' minimum to get around. My old house had a 10' x 18' shed... shelves down the side, and in the back. Lots of storage as the hood rolled under the shelves in the back. Mower and stuff behind the vehicle. No, couldn't work on it in there... just rolled it out to work on it.

Work something out with your parents... Maybe spilt the cost of this and the slab for it.

For the price of that you can buy a 18'x22' garage package.

You can make a shelter reasonably cheaply with some 4x4 posts and metal sheathing, think along the lines of a livestock shelter.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm not looking for anything too elaborate. Just something better than a damn plastic tarp. I'm really not looking for a place to wrench on my shit just a place to store it and parts. I also found out today that I'm probably going to be limited on what I can build because the place they are looking at has a damn home owners association. So I guess now I just need to sit and wait to see what kind of restrictions I'm going to have.

Where in Idaho?

If it's up north (Coeur d alene) you'll have to deal with snow. If your movin to Boise it wouln't be as big of a deal.

Yeah its going to be in the Coeur d alene area, and the cold and snow is one of the reasons why I don't want it left outside, and the snow is why I don't think that one of the plastic tarp things is going to work. I would really like to have it in the main garage because my jeep is still carberated and even in California is very sensitive to cold temps.

Ya, what part? There are LOTS of places that snow will be an issue. If you're where I am, in Southern Idaho, you CAN'T use those costco tarp deals, unless you want to chase parts of it as they head east on the "breeze" In our county, anything over 400sq. feet requires a foundation (if you like to follow the rules)

Nevermind.... you posted while I was.

You might try an overseas storage container. My neighbor has one plenty of room for a jeep and some storage water tight I think they can be had for about $1200 with delivery

If the homeowners association is that strict will they even allow one of those portable carports? There's one thing you need to remember in all this,it is your parents house and life is generally unfair. :D

you could always rent a storage space.

I am from Idaho - and a lot of people use those crappy plastic canopy things - you mostly see them in the trailer parks, or next to some double wide (which are plentiful in the Gem State).

My rig, however, is nestled right in my garage. Which if you think about it really doesn't make sense - since I just take it out and beat the crap out of it anyway?

You maybe able to get around some "rules" by making the garage a "portable" shed. IE put a floor on it with a couple 6x6s cut off at angles under it so you can "move" it if you want to. By keeping it "portable" a diffrent set of laws may pertain to you.

Yeah I'm not so much complaining, its just that I don't think that my jeep would hold up very well with the cold and everything bein outside during the winter. It gives me hell in California during the winter.

Thanks for the input guys, but right now its kinda at a a stand still because my folks are having trouble selling their house. And I also might have figured out a place to put it while I'm away at college. A friend of the family lives in CDA and has a newly built shop at his house with plenty of room, and he has offered to let me keep it there. They only thing that I worry about is his dog, because it has been known to eat breaklines, and tires and other important parts of vehicles.
