one other thing while im talking deep water. how do you all stop water from hitting your electrical components in the dash, CD player, CB, etc. my truck is a daily driver and off road monster so i cant lift it to high or it wont be street legal.
youll all prolly bitch at me for this but i love to go off road and drive on the street and income is minimal at the moment, thanks

Well I have seen pvc pipe used as a cheap way to do it.

If you wanna be a true redneck, dryer vent hose hooked up to the heater vents.

Don't go in the deep water, that's about the only way.
As far as the snorkel, you may look into finding an intake cap from a late model V8 Grand Cherokee or Dakota. It screws on right on top of the carb and has I think a 3-4" hole on the side for a hose. Then you could go with dryer hose or pvc pipe. On the outside you can use pvc pipe or I have even seen them made out of rain gutter. Just make sure you use lots of silicone, caulking, etc to seal everything

im not trying to be a smart guy, i just know enough to run extentions from the vents to stop mud/water from getting in them, i learnd that the hard way, and about my setup im running a 2" lift with 33" buckshot mudders. they call it a puddle and it goes over the hood of a 99 stock ranger

Ignore most of the useless comments above. It can and HAS been done. The intake is the easy part. The hard part is sealing up the distributer and spark plug wires. Ive seen guys silicone all the wires as well as a bead around the dist cap. Make sure you check the bottom of the distributer too. Ive seen some that had holes in the casing. Not sure why?Cooling maybe? But make sure you dont have those. Make sure all vaccuum lines are attached securely. Ive seen some guys actually put hose clamps on those or silicone them on as well. Relocate ignition box inside. Find a close ford air cleaner. SHould have been stock on you rig. Silicone all of it. May have to look it over and weld any factory seperations. Then silicone it to the carb. Set your air cleaner in and silicone the top down. Find a thick piece of rubber and drill it to the same size as the bolt coming up and use the wing nut to tighten it into place. Now the easiest route would be to take a rubber tube and go straight thru the firewall and bring it inside. Not sure if your driving a clean one or what. Ive seen some people cut holes in the hood and have vents to cover the holes. But if they are goin to run deep water, take one vent off and run the hose thru that and up over the cab. Ive helped on several setups. PM if you have any further questions. My fingers are tired! :flipoff2:

I would not recommend going thru the firewall for anything. Its called a fire wall for a reason.
Other thoughts.
The dipsticks need attention. Silicone everything in question. You will have to do it everytime you check fluids.
On the dizzy, would dielectric grease work in lieu of silicone for sealing the cap? I have heard its possible for a dizzy that is sealed with silicone to "explode" because its sealed too well?
I personally say, take the bypass and laugh when your buddies have problems because of the "puddle". Cleaning mud is a bitch. Finding shorts is a double extra motherfucking bitch.
