I have a 76 disk front end from a 76FJ40. I need spare birfs and need to know what exactly are interchangable with the stock ones. I have two extra inner shafts from a 72 if I can use them.
Please just explain it simply. Ie- 1979-85 Toyota trucks
1950-56 Landcruisers (just examples here).
Plus how much they normally go for $$

Simply:
1976-1978 FJ's. New ones(stock, aftermarket)~$120/ea
With a bit of work/extra parts:
1979 and newer FJ's and minitruck can be used (they're 1/4" shorter), and I think you might need to switch locking hubs if you use Aisin type. Warn hubs need the washer on the end of the birf I believe. A tad of grinding is in order on the axle housing to get them to fit
I am sure I missed some detail but that is the basics I think...

Your inner shafts inerchange just fine the birfields are a bit different but you can use the heavier easier to find minitruck birfields by grinding about .040 to .050" from the lower inner lip on your cruiser's axle housing ball end. the minitruck birfields are stronger than stock cruiser birfields. I used the entire minitruck Aisin locking hubs with Cruiser Rotors and Calipers.
Good luck with your Cruiser.
