View Full Version : Tube notching
Found this thing from trick tools, was wondering if there is any way to just get the mill end and use it on a drill press to do the same thing. Any ideas?http://vansantent.com/images/ultimate_tubing_notcher.jpg
Yea, dont. The drill press is not designed to take the side loads on the quill. Now, if you had a second press that you could dedicate to this, then maybe.

Yeah thats a nice little toy if you are going to be using it daily. I noticed Jr used one like it on american chopper tonight. drill presses cant handle side loads, especially the cheap ones that dont use full Ball bearing quills. The chuck can fall off with enough of a side load, because it is only a taper fit. once you go taking it on and off on and off on and off, it will begin to wear out and you may find you have a bit more runout than before.
for notching tube, stick with Plasma or O/A and grind it. A little more time consuming than that nice machine, but it works.
