View Full Version : .035 wire in a 110v machine?

So I am about out of wire and looking to play with my machine a bit more.

I have a lincoln 135 running C25 (Although I would run Co2 if I could find the reg locally). And was thinking of running the thicker wire... what do you guys think?

I think .035 sucks ass even in a small 220 machine. I run .030" in my home unit (110 volt, 140 amps) and I'm happy with it.

I have a Lincoln 100 and ran .035 flux core and loved it. But I just started using a Miller 150 (220) with .035 wire and 75/25 gas and I don't like it.

The gas is far better that flux core but I just don't like the way .035 and gas welds I am going to get a spool of .030 and try it.

If I had gas on my 110 I would have used .030 and I found I do not like it in the 220 machine.

I use flux core in mine, but i have a Lincoln Pro Mig 135 and run .035".. Actually I think it came with a spool of that in the box. I think it welds great and have never had problems with it except when trying to weld sheet metal. But you're suuposed to use thinner wire for that anyhow.

Lincoln lists .035" and a good wire for the 115v machines for welding up to 1/4". And they list .045" for 220v machines up to 1/2"..... For Flux core...

For Mig, they say .025" or .30" for up to 1/4" on a 115v. Anything thicker they say use a 230v machine.. The article says for .035 to go with a 230v machine....

Out of curiosity, whats your defintiion of a "small 220 machine"?

Lincoln Pro Mig as well.

Came with a Spool of .035 Flux Core. Welds great.

I'll check the mig wire mine came with tonight to see what thickness it is.. Haven't used it and its in my tool box.

I have a century 135 and use .035 flux core and I like it. I get plenty of penitration.

I run .035 in my Miller 135 flux core, seems to work fine for me. I've put 30+ 10# spools through it. I'd do .030 or .023 if I was hooked up to gas.

My lincoln 135 plus came with a spool of .035 flux core, and that seems to work well. I've tried both .030 and .035 solid wire with gas (C25) and I like the .030 better than .035 solid wire. There just doesn't seem to be enough power to get a good bead going with .035 solid wire. Maybe the current density isn't high enough with the thicker wire. I think the .035 flux core must be hollow (it's where the flux is, right?), so it probably works with less current than the .035 soild.

it depends on how thick of metal you want to weld, the duty cycle of the welder, the gas used, if it is flux cored or solid, etc. I have a Lincoln Power Mig 255 and run .035 solid with 75%Ar/25%CO2 and it welds wonderful. I have welded things as small as steel fences, to stuff on construction equipment, never hit duty cycle. You should be fine running it, unless you plan running it all day long at high amperage, then you may run into a problem with the duty cycle kicking in

well I guess the max amperage in the .030 wire is still less than the 110 welders can put out so really .035 is a waste.

This was done with .035 and my HH135 - not a perfect example but it works
