Ok I just got my 95 Ford Ranger totalled, and Im looking for a new truck. The insurance is gonna give me around 8 grand for a new vehicle. I need the truck to be my daily driver/trail rig for at least 4 years (till I get out of college), at which point I will buy a new vehicle and turn the truck I'm about to get into my trail beater. What should I get? I want it to be as capable as possible, while keeping it street legal. Whatever I get I will end up throwing in a solid axle (if needed) and probably lock the rear for now.

well you may as well get SA to begin with. EB, FJ40, some sort of jeep, or a scout. It's really a personal preference thing. It should be pretty obvious to see what works for most people. Look in the for sale section...you can get some pretty nice built rigs for 8k if you want to go that route.

Well, my Ranger is being sold, and I'm picking up an 85 yota, EFI 5spd ext cab as soon as I can find one. I'll have a second vehicle tho, so it won't be my DD, but it will see some pavement pounding time. Just make sure that what ever you get do ALOT of research to make sure you know what you're getting into.

Also, if at all possible, buy a rig that is already compleated, or really close too. That's the cheapest way to do it. Good Luck!
