BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is lengthy (over 300 pgs and hard to read and understand. It is very biased against equestrian use and contains many errors. Our equestrian members believe that it needs to be redone.
This study calls for the closing of 172 acres in Jackson Falls to equestrians while leaving it open to rock climbers. According to the Amended Shawnee Forest Plan of 1992, equestrians have use of the trails and climbers have that privilege only if there is no conflict. Also, this study calls for the closing of 70 acres north of Jackson Falls. NEITHER of these areas are in Natural Areas, and have no place in this DE IS, which is to deal only with Natural Areas.
