I'm not a newb... got a 1-ton chebby truggy... but I am a newb when it comes to jeeps. My wife wants me to build here a cherokee to be her next car.
There are only a few requirements from her. It has to be one of the more "boxy" body-styled cherokees, it has to "look good" (translation: shiny rims and nich new paint), has to be an automatic, has to have 4 doors, and it has to have a drivers side air bag. Thats pretty much all the guidance I'm gonna get from her. What years would that limit me too?
I know the cherokee has been around a long time, I just want to know what year would be the best foundation for a rig that is going to be for 99% on road (with some heavy rain/snow tossed in) and 1% light trail. I'm thinking 31 or 33" ATs. I have a D44 front from a waggy I may or may not be interested in swapping in, we'll see. Are there specific transmissions/tcases I should be looking for? avoiding? I want hella good reliability, so I'll prolly swap in a freshly built engine... not sure if it will be a 4.0L v6 or what. Could use some tips there too. ;)
did some searches, but we all know how pirate is, if it ain't hardcore it doesn't get discussed. Anyone know of any more tame cherokee specific sites? any info/tips/ideas are appreciated... TIA!
