Dear Subscriber
Four southern California national forests are currently in the Forest Plan Revision process. It is important for you to send in your comments before the March 31, 2002, deadline because this program has many areas that have been identified as potential designated Wilderness.
Help us to prevent further Wilderness restrictions on recreation in southern California forests! To send a letter/email to the Forest Service on this important matter, just go to:
http://capwiz.com/share/issues/alert/?alertid=105052
Get involved today!
WILDERNESS DESIGNATION IS BAD FOR RECREATION:
As you know, the Wilderness Act prohibits all forms of motorized and mechanized recreational access and also affects even equestrian activities. It is important for you to tell the Forest Service that they should develop an alternative based on the BlueRibbon Coalition's Backcountry concept. Backcountry will protect the scenic nature of the area while allowing for responsible multiple-use recreation.
For more on the Back Country concept, see:

Done. I live in Colorado, and we have some issues here as well. But I had recently read in a 4X4 magazine about some of those proposed land closures, and my first reaction was, THEY CAN'T FAWKEN DO THAT!!!!!
I have MANY family members who DO live in Cali. and I don't want to see anybody denied access to OUR public lands.
Hope my vote helps.:smokin:

mtndewmaniac 03-21-2002, 03:30 PM I found this article in one of my older mags. This is quoted by Gerald Forgnone, of the Friends of the Ocean Dunes.
"The endangered Species Act was created by the people of the United States in 1973 to keep animals from becoming extinct. The act is seriously flawed because it failed to take into account the needs of the most important animal: Humans".
"I used to pay little attention to stories such as the farmer in San Joaquin Valley who was prevented from farming his land because of the Kangaroo Rat. I thought this was pretty funny when a proposed hospital site in San Bernardino was waylaid due to the presence of just eight single Delhi Sands flies. Now that $3,310,199 has been spent by that city to fight the extreme environmentalists and to make changes to their designs, I don't think it's very funny anymore.
"When the popular southern California dune riding spot at Glamis had one-third of its area fenced off because of a weed called Pierson's Milk Vetch, I didn't get involved because I don't ride there. By this time, I should have seen it coming and done something. Shame on me!
"The horror of the Endangered Species Act didn't hit me until the stories of impending closures of my favorite multi-use park, the Ocean Dunes State Vehicular Recreation area, started to surface. Now, as more information surfaces, it is becoming more apparent that the ESA is far too drastic in its protection of plants, animals, and insects, because it does not take into account the affect of how its power is being used to restrict and/or eliminate things that are beneficial to people, such as recreation, flood control, and well thought out construction projects.
"Lately, we have seen Santa Maria's long-planned airport business park delayed because it's a possible habitat for Tiger Salamanders, and a nasty algae bloom in Pismo is allowed to fester while the local government is tied up with permits just to open the stream to the ocean, which common sense and past experience tells us should not bother the stream or its inhabitants in the slightest.
"Now, I wish I had done more earlier to fight the draconian implementation of the ESA by government agencies and extreme environmental groups. But, there is hope on the horizon for the silent majority of citizens who are in favor of moderation in the laws that govern us. A group called the National Endangered Species Act Reform Coalition has begun the battle to try to put some sensibility into this totally misused set of laws that choke off all common sense in the management of our country's lands. The NESARC can be visited on the web at www.nesarc.org.
"The time is now to put a stop to the non-sensical approach to land management currently in place. People need to be our first priority in land management. If we don't do something now, Grover Beach mayor Rich Newfeld's prophecy will come true: "Pretty soon kids with pails and shovels will have to get permits when they visit the beach. They can't even fly a kite from Grand Avenue southward right now because of the ESA! When will the madness stop?"
"For more info on anything Oceano check out www.oceanodunes.org or call 800/42-CORVAx215."
Sorry for all the reading, but I thought this was a huge eye-opener for everyone.

mtndewmaniac 03-21-2002, 03:40 PM What is this! 380 views, and ONLY 38 REPLIES? people, we need more involvement than this! For those who have spread the word, GOOD GOING! I'm trying everything I can along with the other 37 here. That's only 10 percent of the total views.
To the original author and the moderators, I don't mean to monopolize this thread, but I feel that more needs done. If we don't start here, it may be too late when we do.
PLEASE, PLEASE MAKE YOURSELVES HEARD!:)

If you can, its time to do something, anything. If you can blow big chunks on your rig, you can drop some $$$$ towards a worthy cause. Don't wait around for the Rubicon too long, either. Support a 4x4 club or contribute to an organization like FOTR or the Blue Ribbon Coalition.
500 HORS 03-28-2002, 11:33 PM only a few days left, keep em coming!
