I’m looking for a jeep mechanic in the Lake Tahoe area. My baby needs some work, the throwout bearing has gone out, the rear main needs replacing and she’ll probably need a new clutch kit. Any help with this would be sweet.
Let me know if posting the same thread all the time isn't cool!!!
(Cause I'm just a f@*king newbie!!! I don't know these things yet):)

There are lots of things that are not cool.

You don't walk into a calc class in college and ask how to do trig problems, do you?
You don't walk into your minister's office and ask about if chewing gum is right or wrong, do you?
You don't go see your barber and ask him to shave your nads, do you?
You don't go into a biker bar and ask for a shirley temple, do you?
You don't bring a knife to a gun fight, do you?

Haynes are better, but just get a factory service manual and be done with it.

Sorry I can't help ya out much more as I am a bit far from the lake... I am however a firm believer of learing how to do things yourself though. Clutches are easy, bearing & main seals can be tricky if you don't know what you're doing. RTFM, and do what you can yourself. You might then be able to find someone to help ya out for a couple of hours by showing you to do what you feel sqirmish about.

You should learn as much as you can, it IS a Jeep afterall.
good luck

Go to the dealership, for the dollar they are the best. save all of the receipts, look at them until you realize you really want to do the work yourself.

Theres a guy in (the town as you come down the hill) who's supposed to be good. He's a little grumpy so take your salt with you.....

Ask the guy at the machine shop next to the 7-11 at the Y where this guy is at 'cause I can't remember....I'm old.:flipoff2:

He has a maroon Jeep and is usually there during the week. He will also warn you about this guys attitude.......He knows his $hit but ya just gotta work though the attitude :)

You gotta be smokin:smokin: :rasta: :smokin: At the dealership you get WAAAAAY more than you ever wanted or thought you needed.
Yes, I am a little biased, but I have seen those repair bills and ghost problems that come out of no where.

Don't trust anyone to work on my Jeep. Buy a service manual and learn how fix it.

I grew up in Chico- where are you around. I went John Mcmaness school-

Bidwell park, Caper Acers, Sycamore Pool, Pioneer days- Father taught at Chico State in the 60's and 70's. Lassen, Red Bluff, Black Butte, Big Foot, all the great places are there.

There has been at least 4" of snow on the ground here since my Jeep broke down. I've replaced the clutch before myself, but without a garage or a dry drive way it kinda sucks.. So don't get me wrong, if I can't find someone to help me fix it before the ground thaws out... I'll do it myself. It just sucks walking by my baby to the bus stop everyday so I am looking for some help to get her back into action ASAP. Thanks for all your input.

Thats a bunch of bullshit.
Sure you may find a dealer with some talented mechanics, but they always cost more bucks than an independent. On the other hand, yoiu can find dealers with the stupid nimrod mechanics that should be working at Bubbas Automotive as a floor sweeper.
There is nothing guarenteed by using a dealer. And I have seen them kick and scratch all the way to court to get them to back a warranty item, even after they replaced everything in the parts manual to try and figure out the problem. Dont forget those garages have corporate quotas they have to maintane, at your expense.

As far as getting a good mechanic, Mike Shaffer is right down the hill in Carson City. Or you could take it to reno, and have Jake Hallenbecks shop work on it for you, or take it too Tim at the 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, hes a very good mechanic.
I dont know any good shops up in the South Shore area.
