i posted on general 4x4 as well but here it is again:
i have just finished buyng most parts neede to convert my TJ into a bit bigger and better. The advice i seek....Is the TJ frame srong enough to support Dana 70/60, Chevy 350TBI,700R4 and Dana 300 tcase running 44" boggers?
Do i have to reinforce the frame?
Are there other vital things that come to mind in putting this project together?
Should i lengthen the frame?
Thanks for all the input.

depends on how you're doing it I think. I heard that the YJ frame is stronger since it isn't as arched in the rear as the TJ with its coil springs. Also the TJ is supposed to have crumple zones. As long as you use long arm kit that distributes the force all throughout the center of the frame it should be ok. If you go to leaf springs front and back it will crack without reinforcemnts. You could make a rollcage and tie to to the front and rear of the frame like racecars do. That way the forces can't gather at a certain point and crack the frame.

The YJ has crumple zones also.
The TJ has a much beefier steering gear box mount and seems to be plenty strong for the setup that you plan to go with. IMHO

Rockslut, that was what i was hoping to hear.
YJ4life, the cage is already there (6 point) through dash. And a custom 4link and 3 link will be used as well.;)

I'm talking about through the firewall through the engine bay towards the front of the frame. I REALLY doubt the YJ has crumple zones built in. The frame if is mostly straight. It came out in '87 which means it was designed in the early/mid 80's.

Yes the YJ does have a crumple zone. At the front body mount of the tub before the frame curves up there are 3 holes on each side of the frame rail. That is the crumple zone. TJ is similar. I worked in a Jeep wrecking yard for a long time.
