I just got my Master pull line, and wanted to put it on. But my winch isnt spooling out. What can I do to fix it? Has anyone else had any problems like this? Let me know what you guys think I should do.
Thanks

Is it not freespooling or not powering out?

Freespooling; sorry should have clairified. I think I might have had the winch rope on the drum wrong? Is that bad for the motor? SO instead of powering in, I was powering out:eek: I know I a fawkin newbie so bear with me

The cable may be bound up and rubbing the winch mounting plate. Keep the drum engaged and power out while pulling the cable. And wrap the new rope in the right direction ya newbie :flipoff2:

the cable isn't jamed is it? Mud/rocks stuck someplace? Can you narrow it down to a probem inside the winch?

Sorry I'm not much help, my winch won't free spool either, but that a lot to ask of a hi-lift :)

The freespool lever is basically just a gear shifter, it can be cranky like transfer case shifters are sometimes. Just keep playing with it, trying different things like:
1. make sure you're turning it all the way - you should feel a click at each gear position (in/forward, out/reverse, freespool/neutral)
2. try snapping it quick and hard into position
3. beat on it with a hammer (not too hard, just to free it from being stuck) top, front, back etc.
4. dribble a little oil down into the crack
5. shift to forward and give it power for a sec while trying to shift to freespool
6. etc., any little variations you can think of.

Winding the cable on the wrong way shouldn't have anything to do with the gear lever. If the cable is hung up you ought to be able to see it if you look real close. You can also reach in and try turning the drum by hand (instead of pulling on the cable).

If all else fails just take the housing off and examine the shifter mechanism, see if you see anything interfering with free movement - maybe something has fallen in there that blocks it from shifting into the freespool position.

put in in free spool, hook to a tree and back up, slowly!
