just got my Waggy 44 together its leaking fluid out of the left drivers side only, It leaks also at angles obviously. So I know that the ineer axle seals should be ok, I think so is there a outer seal for a waggy Dana 44? its out of an 87 or 88 waggy I belive. Its only the left side, the right dosent leak but the left leaks big time whats the deal? Thanks :usa:

Well an 87 or 88 Waggy would not of had a 44 rear anyways.

As long as we are talking about a non-vaccum disconnect front end. There is only a inner axle seal. One on each side of the differential. Once you rip into that thing replace both seals. You have to comletely dissassemble the diff including pulling the carrier.

Can only speak for the non-vacuum disco 44. They only have two inner seals on either side of the diff housing. They are kind of a beast to get to, you basically, have to pull everything. Shafts and then carrier...

yes its non vaccume and I realize I got to pull all the shit out of my axle, well I just got it done to, oh well I guess Ill have fun tommorow, and to think the seals are only $4 bucks each! what a cheap but hard ass fix. thanks

make sure to "pre-lube" them before putting in the axles....I use a dab of grease and smear it around the seal surface. heavy gear oil works, but usually will run off the seal by the time your ready to put the shafts in....most leaks after an assembly are caused by running dry seals on startup....

As far as an '87 or '88 Grand Wagoneer having a rear D44, I'm not sure, but the '89 I got my axles out of did have a rear D44. It is now in my XJ and is sporting bolt on disk brakes. :) The front D44 was stripped of many parts and combined with a Ford housing and Chevy steering knuckles and is now in the front of my XJ. :) Jeff

BTW, make sure the axle is in good shape where the seal rides. Cleaning it up with some emery cloth would be a good idea.

Yes they did. Mine came out of an '87. (front and rear 44s, no disco on the front)

Oh, and they only have the inner seals on the front end.
