y-townxj 07-27-2005, 11:24 AM my brother has got a 89 s-10 blazer that he wants to full width and i all ready have a rear 60 for it i was wondering what would be the best front end for it and what would be the bigest problems we would run into thanks

sled_dog 07-27-2005, 02:50 PM umm, making your own mounts would be the biggest issue, and the front axle, what do you plan to do? 44 would be fine for small tires, big or hard use, 60 all the way.
y-townxj 07-27-2005, 03:09 PM i have also got a seat of 36'' tsl's for it so thats what we would be runing for tires im not shure about what front axle probably a 44 does a 10 bolt suck or are thay ok because i can get one of them for free
s10bogger 07-27-2005, 03:53 PM Currently I'm running a fullsize dana 44 & 12 bolt under my s10. Spring over with stock lift s-10 springs in the front and YJ's in the front. I'm also running 36" TSL's. I've still got the stock axle shafts in it and personally believe that I'm on the boarder line with these diffs. Again where I'm located there isn't much in the way of hardcore rocks, mostly trails, but I would not be surprised when I break an axle shaft.
Personally If you're planning on running a 60 in the rear, I'd look for a matching 60 for the front. At least this way you should have the same bolt pattern on the front and rear, but again you could always get a dana 44 or Corp. 10 bolt with the 8 bolt pattern.
One good website to check out would be www.s10extremist.org it's a great site with lots of reading material and info and getting started on SFA swaps, plus quite a few pics of finished rigs as well as different crossmember options (I'm also on that board with the same login). The only thing is that the site is not as hardcore as pirate, but is really specific to the s series trucks, I really learned alot from there when I was getting started.
92 S-Dime 07-27-2005, 04:57 PM I have a D60 rear, D44 front with 35's, locked front and rear with dual t-cases and have yet to have any problems out of my axles. I think a front 60 is a little overkill for 35-36" tires but you'd have the peace of mind about not breaking stuff in the front axle. If you have a more common, 30 spline D60 rear, and you get a D60 front, your rear axle will be weaker than the front. If you go 44 or 10 bolt in the front, Id definately at least get new Spicer 760x cold forged joints for the axleshafts, theyre the strongest Spicer D44 joint you can get. I also highly recommend the S10extremist.org site, has helped me and many more with more questions than you can imagine, that are S10 specific on this type of stuff.
Jamus2 07-27-2005, 05:37 PM Dana 30 all the way. :flipoff2:
All I have to add is; make sure it's built safely. Used to think a solid axle s-series was FOOL-proof, but I've been proved wrong.
Don't be that guy. (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377702)
bigS-dime 07-27-2005, 11:10 PM My S-10 consists of a 44 w/ minispool in the front, 14bolt locked up in the rear w/ 4:10's. have ran 38.5 groundhawgs then 39.5 boggers with very little trouble. Had one U-joint go out thats it. This is with a healthy 355, sm465, and np205. But I only wheel in mud with light trail usage, no rocks! (primarily straight blasts thrue deep mud) I've already have the front and rear rockwells for when the 44 breaks but that hasnt happened in 2 years? GO FIGURE???

y-townxj 07-28-2005, 08:23 AM i think im going to go with a 44 if i can tfind a 60 for cheap thabnks for the coments i and does anyone now why my 4.3 runs like shit all the time it over heats and runs out of power on big hills
Jamus2 07-28-2005, 09:26 AM I've owned more than few 4.3's and have been pleased with them. Done all the maintenance stuff? I've never had a 4.3 overheat, even offroad. No power on the hills may be due to gearing. They come with 235's stock, so if the tires are larger and stock gears, might not have the grunt.

try flushing the coolant. the dex-cool has a known habit of turning into sludge......

every tech I've talked to says they have been told that by GM, but never seen it personally. They have however seen Dex-Cool eat away gaskets, at least they think it was the Dex-Cool. Basically all GM techs I've talked to(many of my teachers at school were GM Techs), in their own vehicles they remove Dex-Cool and put in the old stuff.
