My K20 with 383 stroker is only running at 180 degrees. I have a new Autometer Phantom gauge. The problem is it pukes out half the coolant in the radiator. Even with a catch can I still get fluid everywhere. The cap is a 16 pound tho is a couple years old... Any ideas??

Where does the coolant go if you have an overflow tank?

Where is the coolant leaking out of ? The cap, hose thermostat ?

It goes into overflow tank but the tank has a small weep hole on top. So it fills the overflow tank then pours out the weep hole. I think its for air pressure or something. No other leaks. Just going out past the cap.

How big is the overflow tank?

sounds like a cracked head or your water pump is not moving the coolant.
did you put a new pump on this engine? if not i would suggest that first.

My burb squirts out a over 1 qt. of coolant around 200-210. You should have at least a 2-3 qt overflow tank.

If you do have a big enough tank, unfortunately, MJs probably right.

you ould have a leak in the heater core or someplace that is allowin air pocket to form.
mine did that when the heater core was dead.

Well I put a new $7.99 cap on it. Bumped the timing up a bit and think I got it. Drove around town and on the highway for a half hour and temp looked good. Got home and only had little bit in the catch can. :grinpimp:

Check it out, an engine should only boil over if one of 3 things is wrong: Too much heat (heat=expansion=boil-over), an rad cap that isn't the right pressure rating or is just worn out, or you have a head gasket blown filling your cooling system with hot gas. You said that you replaced the cap, thats a start. Get a thermometer that you can stick in your coolant somewhere besides your temp gage, because your temp gage could be giving you inaccurate readings. Pressure test your cooling system, that'll tell you that its holding pressure like its supposed to. Maybe you just need to take it back to Walmart and get your money back. LOL Good luck.

Well for the last week since replacing the cap its running like a CHAMP!!! Tho I got word a certain neigbor didnt appreciate when I drove it to work one day. Not much I can do with a 450 HP motor that has a lumpy cam, gear drive, 2 chamber flows with dumps and a little stall converter at 6:30 in the morning.
