Hi y'all!
I've read this board for years, have found you guys to be some of the most knowledgeable Jeepers I've met... Just never had the balls or real need to post here!
Anywho, my Jeeps about to get torn down completely for a major overhaul, and rebuild. Starting point is a 79 Jeep wagoneer, with a 4" superlift (superSTIFF!), 360 (stroked w/ amc 401 crank/rods), TFI conversion, and MSD6 Off road. Tranny/Tcase is of course TH400/QTrack.
The 4wheeling I do, is largely Muskeg, sand, and OilSands (You guys have to try it! It's a blast!) Not much for rocks up here to play on, tho there is some granite in dem dar hills!
Right now, as it sits, I've got new axles, GM Dana 60 front, 14Bolt rear (Full floater) both with 4.10s. I want to completely rework the suspension. My best guess is I'm going to toss the superlift, go SOA on the front, in the rear I have two choices flip the shackles in the rear (might also drop the spring mounts 2-3") but at the same time we did build a 3 link coil setup for the rear (4 link not possible w/ the current gas tank), but I'm rethinking it, as I think the arms might be a tad short (we designed it to use the rear spring hanger) I'm also wondering if the springs might not be all wrong (they're TJ fronts we had lying around) Opinions?
Engine is still up in the air... I REALLY want to go diesel, but I'm not happy with the options... Cummins 5.9 is too tight of a fit, and too heavy... 6.2 fits better, but is also too heavy... I've been giving serious thought to a olds 350 diesel, w/ a turbo maybe propane injection? (yeah yeah, say what you will, might be low on HP but it'd fit nice, and the weight is in the right range) Cummins 4cyl is a possibility, but I can't seem to track one down. My jeep is very anti ford, so the navistars are not an option (damn jeep blows up/pukes/thrashes any ford parts, thought the mustang seats would be safe, but suddenly my formerly rust free floor has started rusting through all around them! But the floor around the stock jeep rear seat is rust free! bastard Jeep!)
Maybe, I'll just have to keep the 360, and build it some more!
I was having a thought, I'd like some opinions on, I was thinkng of stretching the wheelbase back 4" (mostly to help clear bigger tires, means I don't have to weld up the back doors, which means no kids muddy/oily footprints on my seat!) But I can't even guess what effects it'll have on my vehicle? (wider turning radius??)
Can someone explain Crossover steering to me? Is it basically just moving the tie rods/draglink upwards by adding blocks to the top of the knuckles? Or am I missing something?
Any help advice/suggestions would be appreciated! (heck if ya come up here for some wheeling after the trucks outta the garage, there might be a  here waiting for you!)
