We are making strides in using the laws to help keep access to public land.
"SUPERVISORS ADOPT RIGHT-OF-WAY RESOLUTION" (Ridgecrest News-Review, 2/27/02)

ASSERT YOUR RS2477 RIGHTS TODAY
Letters REALLY Make A Difference
Thanks to vision and leadership of an equestrian access group, Public Lands for Public Users, recreationalists have a fierce new tactic to protect our access to public lands. These dedicated men and ladies researched, prepared and encouraged the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to assert their RS2477 rights, protecting access to their citizens to public lands. Access to public lands through right-of-ways were guaranteed by Congress in US code 2477. Basically if a route, (road, trail, footpath) has been historically used as an access route before 1976, it is protected by RS2477. Currently, members of Action are working with Riverside, San Diego, Los Angeles, Kern and Imperial Counties requesting our supervisors to assert our rights countywide. We, as individuals, need to also assert our rights with the federal agencies, as well as send letters to all the County Supervisors encouraging them to do this as well. You should assert your rights in ANY county that you recreate in, to protect your access rights. If there was any a time to take a moment to make a difference this is it!!
