HI guys, you all have a hellofa site here. I'm going to build my old 1975 K20. The truck had be trashed by previous owners. The body is shot but I replaced alot of fronend parts and it still drives good. I would like to shorten up the wheel base it to about 110" and lift it 4" run 35's and dump the bed. I ve never done any frame work, how easy is it to chop these old frames?
Thanks
Jon

so basically you want to relocated the shackles to shorten the wheel base. you first need to get the measurements correct and weld a new sping hanger and relocate the back spring hanger. you can cut the frame pretty easily there preety thin so its youre choise of tool. a sawzall would work or a cutoff wheel.if you have bling then plasma cut it.you will also have to do other things like shorten the driveshaft and whatnot maybe shorter brakelines im not sure. and since youre not running a bed it wont be too bad at all. good luck :grinpimp:

I was thinking more of cutting the frame behind the tranny crosmember and taking section of frame out before the hump before the rear wheels, leaving the stock hangers in place. Then butt welding the frame back togeather fishplating and boxing fore and aft of bitt weld for stringth. if I'm wsy off base here let me know.

that just seems like ALOT more work then is needed. i seriously wouldnt cut the frame and weld it back together just because you dont feel like moving the shackles forward some. i would save some time and energy and just relocated the spring hangers foward and then chop off the excess frame. thats also putting an extream ammount of confidence in those welds. it would deffinetly look alot more factory and more simple to just relocated the hangars besides probably being safer too .thats just my 2 cents
