I'm a toyota guy. Please be gentle.

What's the deal with chevy 1 ton tierod ends? For my axle, I have steering arms that are tapered for the 7/8-18 tierod ends, and draglink ends. I recently heard that these are from the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton vehicles, and that the 1 ton chevy's came with 1" TRE's? Is this a myth? Any one got any part numbers for the 1" ends? Do they come as Drag link ends as well? Is the taper going into the steering arm the same as the 7/8's ends? Why does everybody use the 7/8's ends as apposed to the bigger 1" ends?

I'm curious because I figured out the 7/8's stuff prietty well, thinking they were the bigger ends. Now I'm wondering what's up with the 1" ends. Thanks for your help.

I'm not really worried about the 7/8's ends holding up, and I like the fact that they are fairly easy to find (with the exception of the dodge end). I was just curious about the 1" ends from a tech standpoint. The way I figure it, if an impact is going to take out my 7/8's end, it's probably going to take out a 1" end, or else mangle it to the point of replacement anuhow. The idea of the 1" ends was brought up in a thread I started over in the yota section, and I thought I would ask about them. If they were the same price, had the same strength, and were as available as the 7/8's ends, then I might give them a shot. But they would have to meet those requirements.

rod ends a funny about pricing. some are $20 some are $90 for the same design with opposing thread. they are a little stronger a little more flex. i dont think theyre worth changing to, but if i had them i woudnt lose them.

did you check here?

http://www.partsmikeparts.com/tre_comparison.htm

the es2010's are also used on GM 1/2; 3/4; and some 1-ton trucks.

btw, for those of you that buy from carquest don't believe everything they list in their books, expecially if buying TRE's.

The right hand 1" TRE is ok to find but K30's used a 4' long left hand thread TRE (I guess just TR and not TRE). The Left hand thread TRE that is 1" is from a ford and not easy to come by.
