: Need Info on Broncos...More power needed!!!
RompInRanger 03-06-2002, 11:50 PM Hey guys what’s up this is my first post...
My friend has one of the late model Broncos right about when they stopped making them. He just lifted the truck 6incs and put on some 35s and swapped to 4.56’s gears. He is looking to add some big power now... Do these trucks have a 351w or 351c? I told him to stroke the motor but he likes the idea of being blown better (less down time I guess)... Do they make blowers for broncos??? What kind would be better a Roots or a Centrifugal blower? I know Vortech makes a kit for the old lightenings with the 5.8, but I am not sure if that would fit his truck... What Roots blowers are available if any?
(Oh yea he said he no to the bottle):barf:
Give me your thoughts on this... I only know about rangers...
Thanks guys

Tech info is better elsewhere, IMHO.
No offense to welndmn... he's one of about 5 users over there that are worth a damn. The rest just want to see pics of your chrome. :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Yeah that site is not the best, i do get a giggle over it!,but asking the question like what motor it has and so on are questions better to be asked of there, then here
saf-t scissors 03-07-2002, 03:58 PM Yeah, go over there... maybe somebody will tell you that Clevelands weren't made after 73, then go elsewhere to ask about blowers.
A roots-type would be better for the low-rpm of a truck motor, BTW. Check out a Kenne-Bell whipple charger. Max boost at 2500RPM.
Oh, and www.bigbroncos.com
Check out the email list for the best BigBronco info around. Brian "Big :rainbow: " Kale used to post chit from his board to the email list over there to try and get info. :D :D
RompInRanger 03-08-2002, 12:22 AM The reason I asked what motor it has in it is because I don't own a bronco... geeze... and NC.. WTF.. I am in northern california... lay off the tweed buddy... I am into the high revin v6 rangers and the 4 cam mustangs... so I know a vortech would be bad for a non-high reving bronco...
sorry I even asked...:flipoff2: :smokin: :smokin: :flipoff:
clc900 03-08-2002, 10:05 AM If you want to know what motor is in it why dont you ask your friend. Or is it because your friend doesnt know? Boy thats a good one.
On the other hand, if you hadnt noticed this is a rock crawling site. So your high revving V6 and mustang bangers should go elsewhere.
Better yet, you should read Camo's sticky up above before you come in here and start asking dumb questions. Hey my friend has this motor that he wants to blow but has no idea what motor it is. Maybe you guys could help each other find the dipstick and maybe change the oil together.:rasta: :flipoff2:
Oh yeah, just because you're a newbie doesnt mean you can call me buddy. Also you should be sorry for asking:flipoff2:

Ohh man how about the 2 big bronco's e-mail! now that what dumb! i was on there for about 3 days!
I am trying to help tuen my big bronco around me and a few of my friends that are on there have started dishing out smack downs
but then again its not a rock crawling site its just a bronco site
Cherokee Paul 03-08-2002, 11:26 AM Sorry you had a bad experience with that list Weln.. I'm on our local list (Rocky Mountain Region). Lots of good questions/answers there.. low volume, good content. You can check out our local site at http://www.2bbrockymountain.org
A few stock rigs, and more modified rigs.. and we use em for Rock-crawling. Steve Rickard has his entered in the Tough Truck challenge in this issue of Four-wheeler, entrant number 55. Has taken his rig through Independence a couple times. Other list members have taken their Broncos through Rubicon as well.

Well maybe my friend is about 800 miles away in military school and I got a letter from him asking about how to help him with more power when he comes back in the summer.... An just FYI he does rock crawl but wants to tackle the mud now so what’s wrong with that… I have No Idea if it is either a 351w or a 351c because he never said what it was in the letter....that’s my "dumb question" You could of answered it in one sentence but no, your big macho attitude has to go into this big flame war… grow up ELITE BIG GUY… oh wait your already grown up... ouch... How did you start out Big ELITE GUY... oh forgive me for asking I bet you always knew everything all the time and how to do it...so you are just on this board to drill the new guys right.. sounds cool.. Its people like you that give message boards a bad name...:mad3: :flipoff: :flipoff:
I am truly and utterly sorry I called you "buddy".... cause no one in their right mind would be yours...:barf: :flipoff2:
But sorry to the admins that I even posted this thread because it has proven to be nothing but a waste of thread... my apologies
Thanks to the fellow 4wheels that did help....
Cherokee Paul 03-08-2002, 12:39 PM Late model broncos, those coming after 1980 had either a inline 6 300, a 5.0 302, or a 5.7 351 Windsor. There are a few early 80s that will have a 351 modified (Same series as the cleveland, thus his question was actually semi-valid), or a 400 (Also based on cleveland.. same as 351m but longer stroke).
If he does indeed have a 351m then just converting it to a 400 will provide quite a bit of power, as well as putting in higher compression ratios, and a new cam. Hot-Rod magazine did a nice build-up of one.. you can find copies of the article at http://home.earthlink.net/~tcrocker/400.html
If he's got a 351w then you can either supercharge it or stroke it. Either will run about the same price. 460's are a fairly common swap, especially for the '78/'79 models, but it's a bit trickier to do in late model ones. It can be done, but check with local emission laws before doing it.
Sorry for the rudeness of others. Some just don't know when to speak, and when not to. General rule of thumb is, if you can help, do so, if you can't, then why speak at all?
clc900 03-08-2002, 12:39 PM Look man, you wanted advice and I gave it. Drop a 460 in that rig. Great off idle torque and enough power to get you through the bogs. As for which motor it is how are we supposed to tell that with the description you gave. Although I would be willing to bet your life that it sure as hell isnt a 351C.
And as for drilling the new guys, if you look at my first post I never drilled anyone. Sure a few wise cracks but if you cant take that then you dont belong on this board. By the looks of your second post you took it as a personal attack and should not have. I still think you should read camo's sticky and learn what this board is all about before you get all personal and teary eyed on me. Go ahead and post back and get the last word in so we can carry on with better and more productive things. good luck to ya!

I totaly understand where you are coming from...cause I sounded like an fool... if it was a 302 then I would not have asked because I know those like the backside of my hand.... he just told me it had a 351 when I went riding with him once a few years ago..
I should of refrased my first post a little better... What a great intro LOL Thanks for being cool guys.. and I won't make anymore foolish posts....:emb: :goofball:

I fine with it, there was some differing opions on things i was ganged up on, with posts like "your wrong, you suck" stuff like that, no one wanted to state facts so i just left
sometimes its hard for people to all get along, my fellow club member John Denholm was a chapet leader as well along with Damon Hass (both in my club) and things just did not work out, no feelng were hurt (well i might of hurt few, people don't like facts that proove there wrong) but i still e-mail a few of them

DOH! Or make that a 5.8, eh Paul? This ain't the Chevy section! And RompinRanger, if you could provide the year of your friend's truck that would help a lot. Some, like my old '85 351 4bbl, said 5.8 right on the air cleaner housing. FI'd models will usually have 5.0 or 5.8 stamped right on top of the intake manifold in BIG print. No flaming, dude, just more info would be helpful. But Paul's right, it's either gonna be a 300 I6, 302 or 351W. If you have tranny info that couldn't hurt 'cause some trannies/engine combos were never offered from the factory (ie 351 and AOD).
