A small group of us have been making our annual trip to the Rubicon the first month of August for many years. Yes I know Jeepers Jamboree does there event the same time, however we usually miss them on the trail. Anyway I heard today that Jeepers have the trail closed to the public for there event and if your on the trail during this time period you could recieve a citation for the local Sheriff's Department. Is this really true?? Last year we talked with Sheriff at little sluice and never had any problems.

ANSWER:

The Jeepers Jamboree folks have exclusive trail rights for the two weeks (roughly) of their events....it's a Parade Permit issued by Eldorado County.

We were planning on running the trail from Aug. 6-8, but staying a day behind the jamboree folks so we don't get in the way. Is this going to be a problem? We did this 2 years ago and didn't see any jamboree folks.

I looked at the jamboree itinerary and we wouldn't be anywhere near them except for the springs on Sunday night, and it looks like they will have cleared out on Sunday morning.

Will this be allright or should be just plan on doing something different?

Sounds like were in the same boat. Our small group has been doing this same trip for several years and never had a problem with the jamboree folks. We don't run the trail at the same time they do in order to prevent any issues. We also don't stay at the Springs. In fact we enjoy watching all the jeeps drive through.

I cannot represent JJ as such, but do rockroll for them. In my experience if you don't get on the trail when they are, don't expect to camp at the main area of Buck Island (below the dam) on the big trip (first weekend), and don't expect to go through the springs or camp in the springs from Thursday morning to Sunday morning, you'll be OK. If you cruise into the springs after about 2:00 pm on Sunday, you'll find it deserted and ready to accomodate new campers. JJ doesn't really want to have a problem with anyone...they just don't want their event crashed and spend their resources working for people who haven't paid for the trip.

Hope this helps.

That’s basically what I was thinking. Thanks for the feedback.

Looking at the JJ schedule, they do not enter the trail this week until Friday (8/5) - Or group is planning to head in mid day Thurs.(8/4). We intend to stay at Buck the entire weekend until Sunday. WIll we be allowed access to the trail a day prior to the event starting???

This page says that the trail should be open after 8/1 ???

Thanks for any input.

"Out of sight, out of mind" will serve you nicely. The trail will be closed this weekend from Friday morning until late Sunday afternoon by the parade order.

The real deal is this:

Expect not to go into Rubicon Springs for that entire time. Stay off the trail between Loon and the Springs all day Friday. Stay off the trail from the Springs to Observation all day Sunday.

If you do this, you will not run into a problem with us, I suspect.

I started out watching the jamboree many years ago just as you are and eventually went to work for them, so appreciate how much fun this can be.

Enjoy!

Everything worked out like I expected, we camped at Buck Island on Thursday and watched the Jamboree folks drive through on Friday. It was a good trip. :grinpimp:
