ok I know this is a common swap. but I would like to get some more info before I start on the front. I have the back in and have no problems. I was checking out the front brake lines and the flare nuts are a different size. what did everyone do about the front axles brake lines. I am putting the front diff in but not sure what to do with the brake lines. the stock 44 lines have a different size flare nut than the YJ and TJ use.
what did everyone do?

also did you ahve any problems with the steering. or did it just "bolt right in"?

I would like to get all the info I can before I start on the front. the rear is done and I love it.

Get brake lines with the proper fitting ;) Mine fit fine.

I went steering over from Grady....Bolted right in.

Get brake lines that have a straight twist on end on them, the braided type and then get the fittings for each end that you need. Try a speed shop. You should be able to get any length you need.

I unscrewed the line from the fitting, drilled it out bigger and cleaned it up before screwing the line back onto the fitting.

OK, maybe I can say it more clearly, since my last answer was regarded as an unreal response

let me rephrase, when people do the swap does anyone know of a STOCK brake line that will work. I have heard CJ lines will but can't verify it.

Just about any speed shop will construct you one for cheaper than buying the prefabbed ones. Check your local yellow pages for a race/speed shop that does them. I dont know what axle you have...but my Ford D44 bolted right up

I just got lifted braided lines for my 94 Yj. The rear line fit perfect with the 9" and the front lines bolted right up to my 44. Early GM brakes had a 3/8" banjo bolt at the caliper and later had 5/16" Thats about the only difference that I know of.

I just went to a speed shop and had them make me up new ones. Right length, etc etc - was even pretty cheap. If you are using a waggy front axle then it uses a metric 10 mm banjo bolt to attach the lines. The speed shop had a big catalogue with every type of fitting for the ends of the lines you could imagine.

Can this be D44 newbie time!!!!

What vechicles/years can I get a front D44 from that is the correct width and correct drop for my YJ? I searched a little and I think 80+ Wagos. Anything else? Then where can I buy new spring perches at for an SOA. Next as asked is steering pretty much straight forward, using stock compentants or will a new setup have to be created.

Thanks guys!

Go here to find extended stainless lines and the fittings that you need on the ends. The lines have standard AN fittings on them which attach to the proper NPT and banjo bolt fittings depending on your application. They are cheap also! www.amstreetrod.com/index.html

attachcurrie do a search on 'TOTW' for 44 information. Your questions have been covered in great detail quite recently.

What I usually do is purchase the brake lines that are meant for the donor axle, then (if needed), I buy the brass adapter fitting (@$1.00 each ). This ALWAYS worked for me.
Yes, some speed shops WILL make up a new brake line, but some will question its usage, ie; highway use, some will resuse to do it due to D.O.T. regulations. But I feel that their products are often times MORE structurally dependable than even OEM.(original equipment manufacturer for you newbies) :flipoff2:
Check with some shops to see if they make them to meet D.O.T. specs, for liability reasons in-part to the shops.:emb:
