I have a 84 Suburban with a 6.2 and 700R4 tranny. The tranny is starting to shifting weird from first to second. I have to floor it to shift from 1st to 2nd. Then it finally shifts from first to second at high (a little uncomfortable RPMs for a 6.2) RPMs. All other shifts from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to OD are fine. Did the search thing. Thanks in advance.

sounds like your vacuum pump is gone out. that or the line from the modulator has rotted off

Start with the basics: Change fluid and filter. Isn't the 700R4 electronic? Might take it to a mechanic (gulp) and put it on a diagnostic machine.

700 doesn't need a vacuum signal, it is controlled by the TV cable.

700 is non electronic other than TCC control, which doesn't have a damn thing to do with shift quality or speeds.

Honestly, you can try to adjust your tv cable, but it really sounds to me like you have wore out the band. Sounds like you are going to be in need of a full trans repair, its probably got high miles on it anyways. Get it rebuilt and have a shop through in list of good updates. Check out some of the other posts that I and Orangefj45 have replied to, there is some good info in there.

yup, sure sounds like either the band is worn out, which tends to happen with high milage, or there is something else coming apart and hanging up the TV valve, hence the late 1-2 upshift.
