: All you people out there with the RE 4.5 Extreme duty

Ok, i've done the search and my questions just aren't being answered. I'm looking at the RE 4.5 Extreme duty kit. I want to know how this kit performs. Pros and cons. And is there any setup that will make the kit that much better ( ie. SRS, revolvers, bodylift), I'm running 33's now but will most likely go up to 35's. I've thought about SOA, but I'm not a welder, and have never set caster. Anyways whatever info you can help me out with would be great.

you can get a bolt on soa kit from full traction :flipoff2:

really though, thats an over priced kit, it just uses procomp springs supposedly. superlift is a sleeper for yj lift springs. they flex really well, and actually make a good kit that is really inexpensive. do this with an inch in the shackles to make your own 5 inch kit, saving yourself money and patting yourself on the back.

The trailmaster 4" kit that i have flexes really well for a SUA lift. A 2" BL and no sway or trac bars help a little. With 33's I can still rub at all 4 corners.

That's the RE 4-inch standard duty kit. The 4.5 XD springs are MUUUUCH better by any measure.

I have this kit on my YJ and if you want to stay SUA, it's the way to go... Flexes great--not as good as SOA but pretty damned good, regardless--and the ride is as smooth as buttah (not exactly a popular thing to mention around these parts, but true nonetheless). I think the kit is worth every penny.

Plan on getting an SYE and a CV driveshaft with it though--too much lift to try to get away with the TC drop includes with the kit. TC drop kits are :rainbow: anyway.

You could probably fit 35s with just the stock kit, but if you wanna actually wheel the thing you're gonna need a little more... I've got the 4.5 kit, +1.25 inch Conn Ferr shackles (which actually only net you another .5 inch or so because the shackles that come with the kit are already 3/4-inch longer than stock), and a +1-inch Daystar polyurethane body mount kit. I get no rubbing front or rear.

Oh yeah, the RE discos suck (noisy), so you might wanna omit those. RE gave me $50 off the kit and omitted the discos and I went with some JKS discos instead.

Jake

Did you read this post?

TOTW: The finer points of going Spring Over Axle (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32963)

For the cost of the kit, I think you could buy a small mig welder, learn to weld and do an SOA and still have some beer money left over.

But, what do I know, I've got coils  ;)

Jake, I would 86 the whole swaybar.

Anyway find a guy that is local that knows more than you about SOA, offer him  and do what Dan-H said

I like my swaybar right where it is thank you very much... My Jeep does the freaky school bus lean around corners without it. Scary man.

I agree with afore mentioned Superlift setup..I know a couple of guys with the 4" superlift...1.5 shackles and body lift..running 35" tires with no problem. The CV shaft is a good idea. Keeps things from binding and kills vibration.

Carefull of the SOA, it takes a lot of work to get there if you're not an experienced mechanic.......Also, these guys fail to mention things like spring wrap and steering geometry that needs to be dealt with on the SOA. I like the trail ability of the SOA but the maintanence and hassles can be many..If you like to drive on the road alot and don't like high maintanence suspensions..stick to the spring under with a spring set.

Speak for yourself, dude. MY Jeep is still marginally streetable and when I get this whole engine swap thing behind me, I should be able to waste most mustangs and Camaros in the quarter...

Now tell me that doesn't sound fun...

If you do anything, stay away from the 4"pro Comp.

Now that I'm outta that Vast Sucking Vortex of Greed that is the Twin Cities, I actually like to take the Jeep to work. In the summer. When it's not raining.

I'll agree that it hella sucked to drive through 45 minutes of city traffic, but up here, if I see two cars on the way to work (only about 7 miles) It's a busy morning. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the wind through my hair...

I suppose there isn't much of a rush hour. Jeeps are much better to drive when you don't have to DD 'em.

My buddy just drove his YJ for the first time in months, he quickly questioned why the hell he DD it for two years:D

Exactly. I have a REAL vehicle too... (2000 Beetle 1.8 Turbo--goes like hell, gets great mileage doing it ;) ).

You should put the YJ body on the beetle and the beetle body on the YJ frame. You would fit in beter at Mud and More with a goofy bodied truck.:D :flipoff2:

Uh, great idea, really ( :flipoff2: ) but the Beetle has a unibody... No frame. I suppose I could still strap it to the YJ frame with a little baling wire and call it a day, but it's leased and I don't think Chase Manhattan leases would appreciate my jolly sense of humor.

When's mud n more? That's down in Buffalo, MN right? I've seen pictures in 4 wheeler or somewhere but never been there. I don't get out much...

(You should probably PM me so we can let this thread die... people are starting to talk...)
