I have the large Caddy calipers on my rear axle and unfortunately they aren't mounted in the best possible way... Right now the bleeding nipple is pointing up - which I like, but the bracket for the E-brake wire is on the underside of the axletube - which I don't like!
So, I'm wondering if anybody knows if its possible to take the calipers apart and just swap the the piston from right to left thereby changing the movement - instead of pulling it forward below the tube you would pull it forward above the tube to make the piston move outwards!
I know that I can put the leftside caliper on the right side, but then I would have the bleeding nipple pointing dow - and most probably I would have it ripped off in no time...
Any suggestions are welcome!!!
TIA

And that makes it a little difficult to bleed the calipers.
so whats the problem dude...
switch the sides of the calipers(opposite side)the e-brake shit will be on top so you dont drag it anywhere or whatever you want. the only thing is if you every have to bleed them you just hqave to pop em off whats the big deal :p

Not that simple...you have to hold the caliper in position on the disc with bleeder on top. On my rear disc'd 44 i cant do this as the brakehose isnt long enough to allow a 180* repositioning.
Now if ya had 3 guys to help one could hold the caliper, another hold a block of wood between the pads, and another to crack the bleeder. Then ya need someone's ole lady to pump the pedal..;)

Yep, works fine. Did that with my large caddy calipers. Just flip them over to bleed (with the block of wood as mentioned).

sell the large caddy calipers for big $ and use the small ones, ebreak goes in on top, and bleader is on top, drawback, fluid line goes in on bottom :(

I had the small ones on my previous axle with Warn's bracket. That was pretty OK. The supply line was on the underside of the caliper, but it was quite good tucked up behind the axle tube. Also, the bleeding wasn't that bad as the caliper only needed a minor "tilt" outwards.
Question is only if the internals in these big calipers are interchangeable from left to right if they were I'd just change them an I'll be set. And very happy...

I think it is possible, they aren't that much diffrent from the big ones except bigger, and I've had them appart and looks like it could work, but the stop casting in the caliper will be wrong, you'll be making new brackets anyway. sounds like a PITA but doable.
