I'm getting sleepy.
Its getting kind of bad in the rangie.
Whats the typical culprit on exhaust leaks? I'm thinking its forward of the y pipe.
There are no obvious holes or cracks that I've seen. So that leaves connecting points.....thinking maybe the flange between the manifold and the Y pipe.

ETC4524 they seem to last ~25k! :mad3: The center core disappears and then it's just two thin sheets of metal.

Should I buy the stud kit while I'm at it?
Course, if I don't buy it, the studs will break. If I buy the studs, none will break.

My disco had tiny 8mm studs and I upgraded to 10mm studs. Part# TE110051

I've had mixed luck with fixing this problem. Of course, my personal truck has the worst leaks.
When you replace the gaskets, if that doesn't fix the issue, consider removing the manifolds and the Y-pipe and draw-file the mating surfaces. They can and do warp or otherwise become distorted leading to less than even force being applied across the flanges, leading to continued exhaust leaks.
Also, be aware that it is very common for the welds at the manifold flanges fail requiring welding them up.

Spent a little time underneath the truck this weekend. Put a little soapy water at the flange. Lots O bubbles
driverside had two bolts that I could give another quarter to half turn.
Improved it somewhat, but a leak is still apparent.
I broke down and bought the two gaskets and the stud kits. Won't hurt to have them on hand.

once you buy them you will never need them :D
I bought a seat switch because the passenger side was WAY reclined when I bought my truck, went to put it in and now it works. That switch sits on the shelf, because as soon as I sell it that old one is toast.

Had a few minutes so I did the drivers side one, as it seemed the worse of the two.
Suprisingly came apart easy....I guess enough oil drips on it to keep it lubed up
So there was no evidence that a gasket was there in the first place. Nothing, nada.
Put the new gasket in, tightened it up and took it for a test drive. No real exhaust smell to speak of, but there is the burning smell you get with new exhaust components...I'm sure that will subside in a bit.
