Looks like they're building it for ARCA competitions this year. I think the axles will be available to the public soon..... custom housing available in widths up to 6" wider than stock, Sidekick chunks, 26 spline front with D44 knuckles, pretty trick! More pics here.....http://www.spidertrax.com/ARCA/

I like it but let's call it what it is, a rock buggy. I mean c'mon, we all know you at least have to have the hood to call it a Zuk :D So how long do you guys thing those 26 spline axles will last? That thing looks pretty light but I wonder what kind of crawl ratio it will have. Their previous creations were always a little light in that dept IMO, I think the yellow one originally had a GRS I and 5.12's, of course that's probably why they coold get away with the smaller axles.

I agree Mike ... If your going to build a buggy, why would you put a Suzuki enging and trans in it ?
Looks like a funny car with a lawnmower engine :barf:

why? well why not wiegh it! compare that with other motors that you find. maybe then you'll realize why two sami's finished in the top ten in points last year in the arca series! you people try to nit pick everything and not look at all the facts before hand!!!!!

very nice rig, fab work look great ,:d but it is a rock buggy and nothing else.:rasta: If they are running a 1.6 or a 1.3 for the power plant with a hybrid 26 spline/ dana 44 axle, they will not last for long in arco. . personally for this rock bug 1.8 power plant would be best, or a 22r ( light engine with lots of hp) . and axles improved Dana44 or Ford 9 ". :D otherwise very nice Rock Bug:flipoff2:
( down the road spidertrak will replace the power plant and Axles )

i'm sure they know what they are doing in the axle department. and have you actually been to an arca event? those guys don't really crawl very often. its more like bouncing off the rev limiter at about 60-1 ratio. :P

I watched the one down here in Phoenix a couple years back. They actually did some rockcrawling. Shortly after that it seems to have turned into rock climbing.

am i missing something because i dont see anything suspending the rear end............hmmmmm is it the cantilever of the link system and the lack of weight on the rear portion of the cage that keeps this thing up in the air.......someone please help me out here.............nevermind i just checked their site and it is a 1/4 elliptical. lol:rolleyes:  :nuke:

How many splines are in a stock toy axle? I know stock Samurai's are 22 spline, but not sure about toys??? I talked to Tom at Spidertrax today and he said they are taking it to the ARCA competition this weekend. I'm interested to see how it does. I am going to try to make it up to their shop next week and take a look at it. He said the new axles should be released in April. A little competition for the Big Suz-Ana from TT??? Hopefully the price will be competitively matched, too. :D ~Steve

22 splines in the front, 26 in the rear. Trail Tough makes a 26 spline front axle with a larger than stock Birfield. Is anybody here running those? Or know anybody that is? Brent runs them in one of his Zuks with a souped up 16V and 35's so they should hold up to my tired 1.3L and 33's. I'd just like to get more feedback before I lay down the coin for a set.;)

As for the "you call that a Zuk" thing..... the Spidertrax rig has Zuk motor, transmission, transfer case, and Zuk axle parts. Other than the miles of DOM and custom made parts, the only parts I see that aren't Zuk are the knuckles on the hybrid front axle and the steering box. It's definitely a Buggy, but it's a Zuk Buggy!

Yeah, I am running the TT "Double Tuff" or something like that in the front. I run 33x14.50 MT Baja Belted somethingoranother... No problems with the axles. Nice job, Brent.

I wheel it like I stole it and hae yet to break a birfield. However, the hub bolts have sheared on more than one occasion. I carry 2 extra hubs and a myraid of extra bolts to reinstall 'em when they fail. I have upgraded to a 12.9 hardness (metric) bolt that is suposed to be around a grade 8 comparable... so, I wonder what is next. Perhaps, I will find out in Moab next week with my 6:1 t-case and Wood's shafts.

Since upgrading the axle shafts, the front is tight. And it is much easier to change an axle with a split (grenaded) birfield than a destroyed u-joint and ovaled inner and outer shafts...

Okay, I went and looked at it yesterday. Here's the specs: 1.6L 16 valve, stock tranny, 4.16:1 case. Rear axle is going to replace their current Sidkick FF. It is a 26 spline full floater that uses a Sidekick rear 3rd. The housing is completely custom made and looks badass. The front is also 26 spline, 297 u-joints, custom housing, flat-top knuckles, and Sidekick rear 3rd. They look pretty sweet and Tom claims they can hold up to 37's with a lightweight Zuk.

Their buggy also has 5.12's, cutting brakes all around, dual ARB's, rock-ram, toy ifs box, saginaw pump, rear 1/4 elliptical and front coils, and 35" MT/R's. Apparently they are going to be selling turn-key buggies just like it. Should be interesting. ~Steve

I am running the full-floating rear with the tracker diff...26 spline axles (4320, 4340 alloy? I forget the number for the sttel composition). It is similar to Tom's (Spidertrax), but it uses the Subaru calipers. So the e-brake is on the rear rotors... not on the driveshaft like Tom's. No preference to me, really, I just did the mods in stages and the floating kit for the rear was more economical since I had already been running the hybrid rear. I still carry extra axled for all 4 corners, but haven't needed them, yet. Knock on wood.

The only issue I have, and it is minor, is that the axle seals on my kit seep some juice, so the hubs are moist. Not wet, just moist. Kinda like an old whore, if you will. But, strong, thus far. I am happy with the set up and will eventually be turning 36 Swamper SSXs.

I chose not to do the 44 route due to weight. My Sammy tips the scales at abotu 1900 pounds w/o me in it. No doors, no windshield, no fenders and a tube front to minimize the weight.

I do have some pics., but they're at home and I am not. So, I will send you a few when I get back from Moab. I am leaving, tonight. Weather permitting.

I wanted to maximize my footprint w/o adding too much (yeah, right) stress on the axles, so I went with 33x14.50 Mickey Thompson Baja Belted tires. (I was going to go to 35s or 36s, but I already go where the big boys go, anyway.) They (the tires, not my buddies!) kinda suck in clay and loose rock, but I normally wheel on granite and I think the sticky composition will be epic. I will know in less than 72 hours. Well, how they work on sandstone, anyway.

http://www.far-n-gone.com/members/tom/index.html

There's a small page on my website. I apologize for it being under construction. I have been busy with gears and grease. The photos are with 33x12.5 Swamper SSXs. Nice tires, but the Sluice ate a coupl of them for lunch.. and one for a midnight snack. But, the night trip through the box (lil sluice) was awesome. No regrets. Except I liked my Swampers. Wil eventually run them, again.

Any new stuff on zuki axle upgrades. What's with the Subaru Birfs. Do they fit right in, custom shafts, machining? I've heard some one mention Toy Birfs in a Zuk Housing?
