Anybody have 33x10.5x15 tires on their Sammy? If so can I see some pics? Right now I am debating whether I want 10.5 or 12.5. I have toyota axles so I already have a wider than stock footprint. I am thinking of BFG all terrains opposed to the mud terrains. This will be on a daily driver with rock crawling once in while. It will have e-lockers front and back so traction shouldn't be that big of an issue.

In my opinion the A/T is the right choice for you. tests I have read show that about the only place the Muddy outperforms the A/T is in actual MUD. The A/T outperforms the MT in sand, on the highway (quieter, grips better, lasts longer) and *I* believe even in the rocks.
I had A/Ts, then went MTs now I wanna go back.
Can't help with the other. Do you have power steering? The 12.50's will be harder to turn. They should float on sand better though. Prolly wear better on the road. You are concerned about getting too wide? Too wide for what? Favorite trails?

I am leaning towards the AT for the same reasons you suggest. On my 4Runner I have MTR's and they just want to dig in the sand, I know AT's do better in sand. But why do a lot of these rockcrawler go with swampers or real aggressive mud tires, is it just cause they look so cool? My Samurai is basically is Samurai with everything else Toyota, including PS. The Toyota axles make the Sammy wide. I don't mind the width, but I do want to keep it somewhat legal as it will be a daily driver. I admit about the only reason I am even considering mud tires is because they do look nicer, but I am thinking for practicallity reasons AT might be a better bet. I would still like to see what 10.5"s look like on a Sammy.

You should see my sammy! I've got it on full width Chevy axles and 39.5" X 13.50 IROKS. Stock steering, no power, and it's really not hard to turn. This is my daily driver and I have custom home made 15" wide fender flares. But first it was just a spring over axle lift with 31x10.50's. When it was only lifted with extended shackles all I had to do was move my front bumper forward 4 inches with some square steel plates. I had Pep Boys mud tires for a while and they were rated for 30,000 miles and after 60,000 miles I measured the tread depth and only a fourth of the tread was worn off. Then I got the SPOA lift and same size tires but BFG MT's. I loved them for climbing dirt and rock and they weren't loud, plus they actually look more macho than the AT's. On the lightweight sammy, the MT's float just as well in the sand I found.
I've got regular pics of it back then, but not digi's. jd
