I have FC's shackles, I haven't installed them yet. This weekend I am putting in new lengthened brake lines in preparation for a lift to come later. My question is with shocks on a non lifted FJ40 and FC's shackles, as I know the ones I have will keep me limited. What shocks would anyone suggest? Are there any other shock modifications I should do? I know this is probably a newbie question, but I did search, and found nothing relating shocks to these shackles. Let the comments fly on how "Hypershackles, Cantilevers, Revolvers, are band-aids!" If I don't like them I'll take em off. :flipoff2:

The only true way to see what you will need is to install FC187's shackles without shocks and take them to a dirt mound of rock pile and flex it up.

Crawl under and see what your extended length and compressed lengths are.

Now, go to the Rancho Shock Guide (http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/shocks/index2.html): and grab the right length shock.

I recommend R9000's in the rear and if you can afford it 9000's in the front as well.

9000's do a great job of controlling the bouncing that can occur when hill climbing, etc.

Hot-Rod (http://www.hotrod-offroad.com/frames.html) has R9000's for $59.00 each, the best price I know of.

Good luck and post some pics!

There is also a shock chart linked off my site covering more than just Rancho.

I'm not a Rancho fan, not even a little bit. I know many others are. I just removed a pair of 9000's last night from my minitruck...they rode terrible on every setting. Replaced with a new set of Doetsch Tech DT3000's....$30 each delivered from Summit Racing. I run these same shocks on my Cruiser with no complaints.

Just one man's opinion...

Thanks for the input. Seems to be a logical process. I seem to overlook the obvious.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Doetsch tech shocks, but haven't heard of someone running them on their cruiser. Glad to hear that they are working well.

My latest Summit catalog has the Rancho 9000s for four for the price of three.
