The following is a release from Yamaha-

Yamaha Factory racer Chad Reed will undergo surgery this week to remove damaged pins from his hand. Reed, who has ridden with the pins since 1999, aggravated the injury as a result of practice crash on Thursday, July 28, at Glen Helen Raceway. Though sore, Reed chose to participate in the X-Games Supermoto event this past week but crashed during qualifying, further injuring the same hand. The excitement for X-games medal honors and the enhanced exposure for his sponsors fueled Chad's desire to compete and ultimately claim the Bronze Medal.

After consulting with doctors and Team Yamaha it was determined that the best course of action is to immediately remove the damaged pins. Reed is scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and will begin rehabilitation soon after. As a result, Reed will miss the remainder of the Outdoor National Series. Reed and the Yamaha Race Team have tentatively set his return for October 7 - 9, 2005 at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I saw a blooper/outtake that showed him crashing going UP one of the ramps and the bike ending up in the seats

That sucks for him - I thought he was just riding real conservative....

The best news is that Yamaha is giving Chads bike to Doug Henry for the rest of the Nats.

I hope the old man kicks some ass.

It was tivo'd so I watched it over and over  I was surprised for sure.

Regarding the above comment about Bubba - do you think it is just a case of him never having to learn to ride with other people? I think this is the first time in his career where there is a handful of people that can pass him. And when they do he does not have the experience to ride near them making his crazy speed/lines a liability.

2dogs i think that is probobly right too bubba is just plain in a new field of riders than before..even though he grew up with ricky, rick was always a step ahead and he still is if he dont learn fast he is going too be another victum of injury like travis pastana but with that kind of talent he will always liv the good life doing something fun!! bubba has alot off pressure on himself 2 win and alot of lime lite.and he has never been boo'd off the track befor and the last few outdoor nat'l he's been boo'd all the way back 2 the pits and the chat lines people havent quit ripping on him..so his mind has 2 be fu-k up right now. let,s hope he wont pull a bradshaw and get depressed and quit!!!
