This weekend will be the first major off road trip my 9 year old son has been on. We intend on spending a few days at Buck Island. I would love for him to enjoy a small ammount of fishing during that time. I am at best a novice fisherman and would really appreciate ANY pointers that could be given to help make this time fishing with my son a positive experience.

What bait should be used?

What LB test should be used?

What size hooks?

Where are the best spots to fish in Buck Island and maybe Rockbound? (We will have an inflatable canoe on Buck Island)

Any other info?

If you don't want to expose your secrets to the world, Send me an E-mail: bronchole@hotmail.com

My son is really excited about this trip, I just want to make this a trip he will remember for the rest of his life. Just like the trips I took with my father.

Thanks,

Dan

Your best bet would be to use worms (Reds), corn or salmon eggs. You can bobber fish theses with a good cast or troll them slowly across the lake. Some lures have worked like Castmasters & Roaster Tails in yellow or orange. Fishing very early or in the evening is best.

Please do us all a favor and use "Barbless" hooks if you can. Please "Hook & Release all of the fish that you wont be eating. These lakes get fished hard during these months and the fish are mostly natives and not planters.

Hope you have a great time and have fun with your boy!

Thank you very much for the info. Will make the hooks barbless and only plan on keeping 2 for a dinner so my son can feel the great hunter spirit!

Is it legal to fish at Buck Island? Is there anything worth catching?

Easy, walk around to the inlet and stand on the stump closest to where the water comes in and cast you favorite trout lure across the rapids. As you reel it across the the rapids fish think it is food that has washed in and jump on it every time.
I caught 2 in 5 min. Damn good eating;)
