: Jeep guy needs help with Caddy calipers!

Hi guys, I posted the following question on the Jeep forum, but then it struck me that it might be more appropriate to post it here since Caddy is kind of more in-house here...
--------------------------------------

I have the large Caddy calipers on my rear axle and unfortunately they aren't mounted in the best possible way... Right now the bleeding nipple is pointing up - which I like, but the bracket for the E-brake wire is on the underside of the axletube - which I don't like!

So, I'm wondering if anybody knows if its possible to take the calipers apart and just swap the the piston from right to left thereby changing the movement - instead of pulling it forward below the tube you would pull it forward above the tube to make the piston move outwards!

I know that I can put the leftside caliper on the right side, but then I would have the bleeding nipple pointing dow - and most probably I would have it ripped off in no time...

Any suggestions are welcome!!!

TIA

If you can make the lever work on the outside or the caliper, internally I don't think you would have a problem. I never thought of this, pretty good idea. I have the calipers too, but never got the cable hooked up. As for the bleeder pointing down, I would be more concerned about not being able to bleed them then damaging them, as I'm sure you know it takes some work to get all the air out of those calipers anyway. I would sure be interested in this if it works.

I have now swapped the piston from right to left and left to right. The handbrake arms work the way I want (above the axletube and forward). Still need to do some fiddling on the cable side before I can run a final test...
