: No fuel
jvorpagel 08-11-2005, 10:11 PM After a year I finally got my 22rte running. Turned out I was missing an EFI relay and engine grounds. I just got my operating permit and now the truck wont start again. The same original problems are occuring now, the fuel pump does not run when I turn the key. I have done nothing to the truck since it last ran about a week ago and never really understood how to diagnose the problems the first time, I just stumbled across the problem. What could have changed now?
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 03:50 PM I cant find a fuse block diagram and am noticing that there is a fuse on my drivers side fuse block 15 amp on the left side of the block in the middle that is not recieving power at all rather it is grounded. Which fuse is this and why would it be grounded. I tried to remove the block but somthing is holding it attached that I cant find.
4CrawlR 08-12-2005, 03:53 PM Fuel pump is not supposed to run with the key on (before starting), but you can make it so:

jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 04:11 PM Maybe my fuel pump went out. I tried the jumper and still hear nothing from the pump. I also tried loosening the cold start line and still got nothing during cranking. Then I ran direct power to the blue or green wire going directly into the pump and nothing. Seems pretty concrete to me but I cant remember where I put my extra pump.
e cliff 08-12-2005, 04:53 PM take th afm off the ari cleaner housing and push the gate open a little bit this should trigger the fuel pump, and i have had fuel pump relays go bad, and also the ground ( white with a black strip i think) has gone out, check the plug under the passagner seat to make sure it contected good. good luck

jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 05:55 PM Which is my fuel pump relay?
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 06:11 PM I opened up the afm and opened the gate and still nothin at the cold start. Is this a good way to check if fuel is reaching the rail or do I nee to disconnect it elsewhere. I should hear the pump right? I still need to check the ground and relay.
e cliff 08-12-2005, 06:21 PM you probly wont hear the pump unless you are right next to the tank, the fuel pump relay it located behind the computer but up a little bit, i think its call the open cuircut relay too??? i dont know check your grounds
e cliff 08-12-2005, 06:23 PM oh yeah make sure the key is on when messing with the afm
4CrawlR 08-12-2005, 06:35 PM Which is my fuel pump relay?
That info is on the web page I posted a link to earlier. There is no fuel pump relay, per se. The Circuit Opening relay does supply power to the fuel pump.
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 06:47 PM I checked out your link but still am not sure how to spot the circuite opening relay.
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 06:48 PM ignition is on.
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 07:01 PM alright, found my extra pump. I am getting power to my pump but no pumping. Guess Ill replace it as soon as my daughter is in bed
4CrawlR 08-12-2005, 07:10 PM I checked out your link but still am not sure how to spot the circuite opening relay.
Did you miss this section?
The Circuit Opening relay is located in the passenger side kick panel area.
* It may be located behind/above the ECU module or behind the passenger front speaker.
* It is a small black box, about 2" square.
* It is a fairly expensive part and is likely only available from Toyota.
If the pump is getting power, then the electrical stuff should be fine, as long as it is a good strong 12V to the pump. Might be some crud has clogged the pump. Might try cleaning it out and see if that helps.
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 07:18 PM No I read that, but either Im blind or stupid because I cant seem to find anything matching that description. Anyway I checked the plug @ the fuel pump and am recieving 12v with the afm wedged open so the circuite opening relay must be good right?
4CrawlR 08-12-2005, 07:25 PM I think the relay location varies with the year, a FSM for your year truck would show where it is. If you can have someone open and close the AFM vane, you should be able to hear the relay clicking on and off and find it that way.
But if the pump is getting 12V, then as noted above, the relay and wiring is fine, since it is the relay and wiring that feeds 12V to the pump.
jvorpagel 08-12-2005, 10:18 PM I pulled out the tank and pump, there is a LOT of "goo" all over the screen and the pump is not working. I think something was in my tank and dried up in the pump. Thanks for all the help.
jvorpagel 08-13-2005, 01:19 PM Truck runs fine now with a new pump. Took it for a test drive and everything was great. Time to start a new thread though, after I paraked it I lost spark and now it doesnt run again.
