Grumpy...

I have all the parts and pieces for the 8 valve 1.6 efi swap. Right now it has a webber on it and I am not perfectly happy with the performance. It gets me around very well but there are a few situations that EFI would not have gotten my into. Does anyone know where I can go to find out what to do about the wiring. $$ is real tight and I would like to do this myself to save the $$ for my 4 link/coil parts. The wiring is the only thing worrying me right now. It looks like everything else will be easy swap/ slight fab to install. This is going to be done the same time as my tube front clip so the motor is easy to access and it won't be down for double time. thanks for any input...I did notice that azrockcrawler.com has a wiring link on his site, is it easy to follow and is everything correct?

Here's a good thread. It was sort of hard to find searching. :D

I just did that swap. Get yourself the correct harness and then go from there. I can get one from a junkyard here for $150. all I did was get the whole engine wiring harness(everything under the dash too) then lay it out on the concrete in correct shape and placement as if there were a firewall between the under dash part and the underhood part. carefully cut all tape and stuff offf the harness so it's all exposed. Then what you want to do is pay attention to the ECM and the stuff that connects to the engine/distributor. It's actually not all that much. If you unplug the electrical connectors on the ECM and look in the hole, you'll see that with a sharp pointed long thing like a paper clip or a tiny flathead screwdriver custom ground on your grinding wheel( I know you got one) you can "unlock" the wire from the connector and push it out.
Now that you know how to pull a wire out of it's connector, you just take them one by one out of the ECM connector, snake it out of the rest of the harness all the way to where the other end connects to a motor connection under the hood and then lay it across the top of all the other wires and plug it back in to the ECM connector so you don't forget where it goes. If you do, Get a book or I can send you a diagram that says where each color goes. The book was invaluable during this process. there are like 2 dozen wires in each ECM connector. When you're done, 20 pounds of wiring should fall away leaving the ECM and everything it's wires connect to. 1 or 2 of the ECM test wires go to other places but can be cut or removed from those underdash connectors and left hanging from the ECM.
I could do it for you, but it takes all day. Or you can buy one ready made with installation instructions for near the same price and effort.

Don't forget a high pressure fuel pump. The sidekick one is $450 from Suzuki. Go to Autozone and get an external mount pump from a 71 or 72 lincoln. It matches the flow and pressure of a Sidekick. and it's only 75 bucks. I just had my pressure tested at 40psi. Now I just got to either put a new head on it or a new 1.6. I got wierd compression readings. 110-100-185-160. Got to be the head. I did try to melt and blow the engine for 2 years with no success.
