I'm in process of swapping a 360 out for a 304 in a neighbors J10. The 304 is temp till we get the 360 short block rebuilt.
However, i find one of the 304 heads has bad valves, can i swap the 360 heads to it?
In a jamb here guys...help me out.

NO! the 304 and 360 have diferent bore centers, so the heads will not line up. The bolts will, and everything from the outside looks fine, but just lay the head gasket on and you will see this won't work.

Thanks for the input.
Glad i got hint that this may not work before i had done more work. Guess i'll have to send the 304's heads out for a valve job.
Appreciate it.
Actually another question...i'm ok with the 360's exhaust manifolds? I havent picked up the head gasket kit to check these things out yet.

I am not AMC expert by any means but I have heard of several people swapping the bigger valve 360 heads onto 304's. These engines ran fine.
Dont take this for gospel but thats what i have heard. These are guys from a Jeep wrecking yard.

 Bore spacing is the same... 4.75". The larger valves on the smaller bore may cause a problem though...

Depending on versions they are the same heads, 304 vs 360. They will fit.

Were you thinking Mopar 360 vs AMC?

The 360 and larger heads "will" fit on a 304 with machine work. I am running 390 heads on my bored 304, and all the the machine shop told me they had to do was some milling on the block to fit the larger valves.
Not terribly expensive as the block was already being worked over, but if you have a good running motor, it would be a pain to tear it down just for that.
Hope this helps,
Ed
