Still a newbie.... enjoy reading the threads... but I finally have a question... I found out that my front drive shaft is turning while i'm in 2wd high... I have manual locking hubs and both are set on free.... my only guess is I'm not disengaging the T/C and hubs correctly ...anyone have any ideas what gong on????

If you go under and grab the shaft it should spin by hand.If not then something is locked in.Could be a hub is bad and not freeing up.If it spins then don't worry about. If you watch other trucks on the road you will see that most of the older rigs front will spin somewhat at speed.Blazin:rasta:

A truck I almost bought of a guy did that same thing. His solution was to hook a clothes hanger in the u-joint and bend the other end around the frame. He said he wanted to save wear and tear on the front axle. That made sense, but what didnt is that the truck is not even close to street legal and gets trailored

That's stupid. He's better off letting it spin if he want's to save it. It means the gear oil is getting stired up and the upper half of the ring gear won't rust. The grease in the inner spidle bearing is also getting stired and it's much better for a u-joint to cycle then not so it doesn't wear lines into the cross (forget what that's called). It als means the gears for the front output are turning in the case again this helps keep the oil stired and keeps the gears from rusting. It not under load so it's not going to cause an issue. It's call parisitic drag.

Out of 3 trucks with 205's I've had they all spin the front driveshaft when in 2WD High. If you grab onto the front shaft it will stop spinning, so there is no load on it. Just circulates oil!:skull:

i know when my chevy did that i was wondering why too but then i realized i have an np203 which very close to the np205 but its an all-time four wheel drive which means its in four wheel drive as long as the hubs are locked as soon as you unlock them your drive shaft just spins.
