I am going to go look at a dana 60 rear
all I know is it has 4.10 gears and is out of
a 3/4 ton 4x4
which will match my dana 60 front.

after doing a searh I figured out
that a 1979 and older are full floaters
that the 1980 and newer dont have a large
selection of lockers available.

is ther some thing else I should know ?
I would most likely will be narowing it down
is ther any hiden problems with shortening the axels?

THANKS

It will just be a regular old 30 spline full-floating D60. Lockers are easy to find for this axle. I think the trouble with 1980 and newer is that I think around then they began the switch to the Sterling rear end, which is more limited in locker choices.

Shortening the axles is no sweat on this one.

Good luck.

If you are going to narrow that axle you need to decide if you are going with 35 spline axle upgrade or not. If so you will need to either bore out the bearing spindles that you have or use the outers from a 14 bolt, D70, or a sterling axle. The stock housing will not fit the 1.5" 35 spline axle.

Just something to think about.

There are some ff60 rears with the big spindle bores that will fit 35 sp axles but you gotta search for 'em. Only way to tell is to pull an axle and measure. Also I got a 60 out of a 72 ford that was only 62" wms-wms (instead of the typical 67" or so) so you probably want late 70's to match your front. You might check Dodge trucks also.
