I know before I post this what everyone is going to say. Why even mess with the 35c.
Answer......I already have dana 44's to go on this Jeep, but for now I have a detroit ezlocker for it. I was going to throw it in until I got my 44's ready to go. Then I will put the 30/35c on my other Jeep with 33's.
This Jeep has a 4cyl motor 4.88 gears and 35" tires. I do not do any real hard trail's with the Jeep, but I would like to have fun in it on some trails. I would just like to have more traction when I get in off camber situations. I do not intend to rock bash the Jeep.
My question is: Will the locker hold up on this Rig, Do I need to even install this locker on this axle or is it a waste of time?????? Comments / opinions or anyone that has any experience is appreciated.
Thanks

It doesn't take a lot of time, so i don't see it as much of a waste. If your going to put 44's under it though, why spend the money? I never had a problem with one when it was in my DD wrangler, but the 35 was a problem. This really should have been in the Newb section. You should have searched as well, it seems this question has been comming up at a lot lately.

Newbie Section??? I do not know of a single newbie that has even thought about lockers. Lockers aren't necessarily a newbie subject as far as I have seen. Anybody else have any input???

If you can do it yourself do it, if you can't don't waste the money to have it installed. If cheap traction on a worthless axle is all you want, weld the spider gears.

I put one in my 35 but also put in chromo shafts. I don't do a lot of real hard core stuff either. Having the locker has kept me from having to really stand on it to get up/over anything. If you have it laying around and can install it your self then I say do it. I run 3.5" lift with 33s.

Gee, thanks for the replies...I think.
What I was looking for was....
What will be the biggest problem. I have been told both that the locker will & will not work with 35" tires. Am I looking at broken axle or broken locker fellas. That is what I want to know!!!!!!!!!

It will work. If your not too hard on it, the locker will wear out. If you wheel like a normal person, your axle will die... If you're that worried about it, then just weld the thing. Then you'll know for sure what's going to break first. :shaking:

Shafts will probably break before the locker. It dont take much to break a D35 shaft. I broke my 35c pulling out of my parking spot at work with 33s.

Update!!!
Well i figured I would try it for myself because there seemed to be no real answer for this thread. Thanks for all the people that gave an honest answer.
I figured..why not, I had the locker and I already had 44's to go underneath it anyway. So if I broke the axle on the DANA 35c then I would not be down long. I installed it, it only took about 30 minutes and it worked great. I have 35" tires, 4 banger in a91 Jeep with 4.88 gears. The locker never stopped givin it's all. Matter of fact after my wife beat me in the head I backed down, not the locker. I understand that most of you guys in this forum run full detroits in dana 60's and 70's but I would like to remind you guys of something. You had to start somewhere too and these guys asking questions are tomorrows 4-wheel drive enthusiats and potential customers to all of the 4wheel drive markets. What may seem trivial to you is a honest question to them or in this case us. That being said, thanks guys and keep up the good work on this website. Very imformative and good clean fun.
