Sorry that is the best pic I could find. I built a flat skid plate first. Then I made an engine skid that attached to that. I'll see if I can dig up any better pics.

1/4" plate with some reinfocement at the edges for the main transfer case skid.
The Oil pan skid is slid over the end of the tranny skid and is bolted in on each frame rail (notice the two outriggers going to each frame rail). It is made out of 1/8" plate with some reinfocements.

WHen you make your skid you have to brace it! Just because it's made out of 1/4" doesn't mean it wont bend, I`ve seen jeeps bend 1/4" like it was 1/8. Bracing makes all the difference in the world and 1/8" could work if braced properly.

If you use 1/8" for your skid be sure to use large washers where it bolts to the frame as you don't want to see the bolts ripping through the steel. (Another idea may be to use 2x2 1/4" for this area as a large washer.)

i'm working on a tcase skid right now made of 1/4" steel...bolted to the frame without reinforcement it sagged at least an inch when i rested the tcase/tranny combo on it. unfortunately the jack i had holding the combo up drooped a little overnight and put a dip in the skid, which is going to make it real tough for me to get the reinforcements on just right.

i've got an idea for an oil pan skid that i'm working on, i'll post up if it works.
