im not a quad guy, but ive been in a dirtbikes tranny before (motors are still the same). most of the time... its not the transmission.. the transmission on a dirtbike/quad is pretty solid.. as in the gears/bearings and all. your problem is most likely the shift fork. it is under the clutch cover on the right side. to get at it properly you will probly have to remove the clutch basket. the fork may have gotten derailed or something along that nature. it is soposed to be set on a metal disc with dips in the side, like a store bought mini sugar cookie.. lol. teh fork is connected directly to the shift shaft running to the other side of the motor, connecting directly to the shift lever. the spring may be messed up, or it could have just gotten derailed. check it all out. when you have the clutch basket off, have somone shift it and watch what the fork does. you should be able to tell if its fawked up. i couldnt tell you how its soposed to look, becaue i havent seen it before. but for a job like this, you should drop $30 on a service manual. the year of he quad should be on a sticker on the frame somewhere. if not, use the vin to find out what year it is. also, check to see if the shifter is properly tightend onto the splines on the shift shaft. if its not, then it will obviously slip. and the splines will be stripped, and u will need a new shift shaft.. but fawk that.. lol tac weld it on. you can grind it off later..
