it seems to me the deapest pockets will prevail in this battle for our trail.......i am aware of, and contribute to the usual groups..(cal4wd, FOR, blue ribbon coalition etc.)..a land cruiser run i was on this weekend is donating %100 of the proceeds of the raffle to FOR........
this epiphany i just had might be old news, or where were you when the last guy asked this? :D .... but has the powers that be ever petitioned chrysler for funds to help the cause. afterall they are making a chunk of change advertising the type of recreation there vehicles provide..... as well as using the name "RUBICON" on one of there purpose built products.........it seems to me if they aren't gonna help out they should take the name off there vehicles.........what if God forbid, the trail gets shut down , how will they feel about calling it by the same name..... wil they change it to the "FORDYCE"........it seems to me kicking down some support is a small price to pay to use the name of OUR trail. i'm sure they are making money from this marketing bonanza........
once again if this is not an original thought .......sorry. :D

not an original thought, and not a bad thought. I just don't think they care. I'm sure people have sent them letters about it, but they probably get thrown away with all the other thousands of letters they get. I think it's gonna take someone on the inside...

None of the big boys (cars) have kicked in ANYTHING to the Rubicon or any other trail for the most part. Hummer is doing that, tho, with Tread Lightly, but not to any specific trail.
Jeep and Crysler won't do it because it's too political. They sell too many cars to yuppies.

it would be interesting to confront them (publicly, in mass) about the fact that there namesake trail was in danger of being closed............i'm sure they would cave to the yuppie crowd as it seems that is the majority of their clientel( evident by the number of people driving stock jeeps that don't wave at a fellow wheeler).......
so del, where would be a good place to start as far as finding out who with chrysler (which entity, marketing or what) would be worth "starting " a dialouge with. ...... any ideas , e-mail addys, phone # , etc.
i'm sure it would get nowhere ,but it would be nice to get on record them saying ,no, and we don't care.
sorry for the rant , i feel a little better now.

A couple years ago when Porche introduced thier Cyanne (sp) they donated a huge chunk of dough to trail maintainance programs throughout the US.
And what about GM?
I've seen them testing up there as well...

They sure seem to have no problem running 20 Rubi's through to Rubicon Springs twice this last week and paid a pretty penny from what I was told.

yeah , they'll pay . Pay the private land owners . The corp. interests have the POV that this is a public trail and they use it just the same as you and me. Just cause they got dough don't mean they are willing to dump some the trails way. Public is public and they exploit that and fatten the pockets of private land owners . I wonder if the JJ people were allowed to use the privately owned area's of spider ? Would Chrysler take the name of RUBICON off the rigs if trail was closed , Hell no . That adds more intrigue into it yet.
Time to start scouting and developing other area's . You know that the offr road use of this 13 mile section of umpteen millions of acres of open land is causing unfixable damage to our sport not the trail itself. There is way to much publicity and that is what shuts it down . Quit talking bout it and lets act like the trail don't exist and maybe the issue will settle , NOT , too many young kids with no respect , old farts that don't care , and just plain accidents happen........ Anyone who wants to help with the search and construction of alternate area's please PM me as we are forming a group to handle this with a team attitude. We have a legal person , engineer , scout/trail research teams , land acquisition/use of public land coordinator , many clubs to run events . The main issue is finding a suitable trail network or large land purchase . Once this is done the rest will pan out in prolly 6 to 8 months. More interest has been expressed in the Smith River Nat. Rec. area. Trail exploration is being scheduled and GPS guide work laid down so we can truly have a legal , known , non private trail if it works and then we will still pursue the private OHV park but at this time no large , water holding , drivable land tracts have been found. 80 acres aint gonna cut it. Need large land tracts to look at , landlocked o.k. as easements can be procured...

Mark Smith would have the appropriate contacts, I'm sure... It's sad to me that DC hasn't/isn't willing to do their part, when they exploit the trail the way they do. :(

Checking that angle and more importantly with some other land holders with a much more private attitude and with significant holdings but not wanting the publicity wich is a problem if events and comps and family camping are the goal....
