: 3 spd gears in to 4spd case

Ok ive got the 4spd case and 3 spd gears. Ganna pick up a transition gear what else am I missing?

What did they quote you on a transition gear and where ya gonna get it?

Might want to get a coarse input shaft, just since its a little stronger....and you might need a kit of shims...other then that...go for it.....

The shims are Toyota Dealer Items I'm collecting parts for the same conversion. I bought the largest 3 speed transfer gear cluster last year just need the meshing gears to finish my collection.

I assume you need the transition gear cuz you are using the Toy 4-spd...
With a 420 it isnt an issue..

Buy a transfer case rebuild kit. As long as your taking it apart you might as well put it together right. I got one from TPI, came with the shims, all the bearings, stake nuts-everything I needed with some parts left over. Hmmm...

I've got a rebuild kit on order for my 4-speed case. Hoping I can use the old shims from either the 4-speed case or the doner 3-speed to fit the 3-speed gears in the 4-speed case. Did that work for you?

My kit came with a selection of shims (3) so that's what I used.
It was a 3-speed kit 'cause that's what my "transition" transfer case uses. Yours should come with new ones too. If not, might be able to re-use old ones. Or I could send my left-overs.

I needed to double shim my idler gear to get into spec.

Shims not spacers...
Reused the dimpled spacers as they were within 10 thou of new.

So I'm guessing the transition gear is a 3 speed TC input gear that has a 16
spline to match the 4 speed gearbox output shaft? What is the best source
for this gear?
