Heres the scoop. I have a 2003 F-250 Supercab, V10, 6spd, 4x4,4:30 gears. 28,800 miles. The truck is a animal. Most of the miles are towing 5K-6K

This is a pretty odd drivetrain combo and I love the truck. Here is my issue.

In the past year and half Ford has replaced 2 Transfer Cases and the main shaft in the Trans twice.

The first time was towing 350 miles from home and everything blew up. Output shaft on the tranny was stripped and the internals on the Tcase were toast. Ford had the truck for 1 month. Ford Replaced the TCase with a new unit and replaced the main shaft in the tranny and all necassary parts in the tranny.

I figure freak thing and drive another 10,000 miles. I am on the beach fishing and tcase pops out of lowrange. At the same time I cannot engage 4wheel high without the hubs being locked. Turns out Tcase is fawked, planetaries are shot and the trans need a new main shaft because its stripped. This was one month ago.

Tonight.. Rig will not go into high without grinding. Vehicle must be stopped. 4 low seems fine.

whats the scoop. Has anyone ever heard of such a oddball thing. I got tons of buds with fords and I never heard of any Tcase issues.

Any advice would be appreciated. I am going to investigate the lemon law and put a few calls out to Ford.

Its a shitty feeling having to worry about towing with a 03.

Thanks,

RK

There was some issues with the 271 in soem years of Ford. Sounds like you got at least one bad rebuild from the dealer.

From what I have heard it seems like a common problem. I know my dad is on his second one and the guy who did his transfer case is a friend of ours that works at the Ford dealership. They keep a lot of tcase parts in stock because of issues with them.

Personally I Work At A Ford Dealer And Have Never Sold A T Case Or Parts For Any S-duty.

What kind of Ford dealership do you work at though? Our friend works at a Ford truck/Sterling dealership. They don't work on cars nor do they sell them. This may explain some of the higher volume of Super Duty t-case and 6.0L PSD problems that they see.

Completely off topic - but how is that 6 speed behind the V10? Both of my V10's were backed by auto transmissions, I always wondered what it would be like to drive and tow with a 6 speed.

I recently had the same exact truck. (rocksteadyrobK is a buddy of mine). The six speed is unbelievable behind the v10. It had tons of power. I had no problem keeping up with worked deisels all trough the hills of PA. With the stick you can really allow this motor to get up into its power band. It loves to be worked around 4000 RPMs. I would not hesitate to buy another. I sold this truck to another freind (financial reasons) and he now tows a 2 car goose with it and has no problem with the extra weight. Also, this combo is much cheaper than buying a deisel. I got into mine brand new for under $30K.

I tell you, with diesel prices lately if I could find a CC loaded V10 4x4 truck with a 6 speed I'd sell my CTD in a heartbeat.
