I have a 1990 chevy fullsize stretchcab 4x4. I just got it with the tranny problem so I just want to see if anyone else has had this problem. with the engine idling I put it in gear and nothing happens but if I rev the motor to about 1500 rpm and let it go back to an idle the tranny will drop into gear as if I had just shifted it into gear. reverse seems to be easier to get into. Once it is in gear it seems to drive normally. I have not driven it fast enough to get it to shift into second due to a bad rod knock so I dont know if it will. the guy i got the truck from showed me an invoice showing that the tranny has only about 5000 miles on it since a professional rebuild but there was a second invoice I found later that said he brought it back 3 months later 4quarts low. the tranny of course is now full of clean tranny fluid that doesnt smell burnt and I cant tell if there is any metalic particles on the dipstic.Can anyone tell me whats wrong with this thing?

Dunno exactly how the electronic ones work, or if they even have them... but I'd check the TV cable adjustment. I know in my 84 it comes off the carb, so I'd guess it would get the same action off the intake body...

pretty simple fix if I understand all the threads I've read about it... havn't actually had the problem myself so I couldn't tell ya for sure, but it sounds like something I'd read before...
