Looking for some input from those that are running a TeraLow 4:1 in a NP231. I am considering putting this in my 97 TJ, 4.0L Auto. My axle/tire combination is D60's and 39.5" IROC's, on double beadlocks. I realize an Atlas is the better way to go, but $$ is at short supply right now and I need to do something with the gearing to reduce the load on the 3 speed tranny.

I love mine...get the 2lo at the same time if you can, since you'll have the case open anyway.

I'm not of 39's or anything big like that, but it sure is nice having some actual engine braking going downhill, being able to idle around trails, etc...

I'm on 35's, auto, with 4.10's for reference.

I have one and like it, but, with my jeep, have the budget the Klune could be a better choice, i have the room to put in. With the klune i can go on the mud and the rock, slow on the rock, fast on the mud !!!

if you dont have the budget of the atlas ... i dont have other choice of the Teralow ....or change you axle ratio.

Or look for the rocktrac of Rubicon, suppose to be stronger.

Eh, for that setup I would want a stronger t-case. Have you though about a D300? If you flip it and install a larger output and a 4:1 gear set should run you not too much more that the the Tera 231 gears are retail. You may want to check it out...

I run one in my 98 TJ, it is the best mod I have done. Yes an atlas would be better, but I do not think you will go wrong with the tera low.

I have the Teralow in my XJ. I have had if for 5 years and no problems. I was like you, needing lowers gearing but not enough money for the Atlas. I looked into the D300 flip setup and it is almost the same price as the Atlas. I have the 4.0,aw-4,4.88s and 36s. It is really low, but your bigger meats should help that some.

I know someone that did the 300, 4:1 and flip and when all said and done he wished he would have done an atlas. It was alot of work and he devolped some leaks that gave him troubles.

I have the Tera, but I don't like the way it sounds in 4lo when trying to go at a moderate speed. I have a 4 banger on 35's and there is a area where I wish I had my original gearing in the t-case because hi is to hi, and low howls if you try to go over 5mph. You have a nice setup on your TJ, I would save your money and keep the big tough theme going, go for an Atlas.

If Tera Lo is your thing, I believe Sams Offroad has the best prices.
