I'm looking for a 14 Bolt full float with 4.56 gears (67"WMS). I found a junk yard that claims to have one and the description says "LOCK". It's out of a 1985 C3500. I know that Detroits were available from the factory but are there any crappy limited slips available that might have made it into a FF 14 bolt? Boiled down...my question is "What 'traction aids' were available from the factory?"
I'll pay extra for a Detroit but I don't want to end up paying more for a limited slip that I have to tear out anyway. Thanks for any help.

Most likely a G80, only detroits factory in the 14FF variety I know of where out of military trucks with 4.56 gears.
The G80's not horrible in the 14FF'er but its not a real locker. If one tire turns 100 rpms more than the other it locks up solid until torque is no longer applied. It requires a bunch of wheel spin to lock up.

G80? Thanks...I'll look that up. Anything else that might have come in a stock 14 bolt?

The 14 bolt "Gov Lok" is reliable, the 1/2 ton version is the exploding type.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like no matter what it is...it's a limited slip (since this is not a military axle). I'll pass unless it's really cheap.
