I just picked up a 2002 Honda Shadow VT750 ACE and was wondering a few things. I also got an FSM for it, but I still had a couple of questions. Any Honda guys out there???

Someone please tell me how to hook up a tachometer to a bike that doesn't have one as part of the gauge package. (2002 Shadow ACE) The factory service manaul that I got doesn't show how to do it, yet calls for idle to be set at 1000 +-100 rpm. Do I need a special tach for 2 cylinder motorcycle engine? My automotive dwell/volt/tach meter only says down to 4 cylinder engines on the analong meter bar.

Also, this plug (circled in red) in the pictures below has me stumped. I can't find it on the factory service manaul diagram. It does have a pink and a green wire going to it. The plug is 12v hot even with the key out of the ignition switch. The FSM schematic says there is a pink wire going to the odometer/trip meter, but that's all I could find on the electrial schematic. Is this a service connector for the odometer??? (This is NOT a California emmissions bike FYI)

if you can't find it on the wire on the diag and all the systems work don't stress it's no uncommon to have open connectors on a new bike . Alot of models share the same harness from the japanese. I've never checked to see if any leads were hot. As for setting the idle with a aftermarket tach the honda fires it's plug every time the piston comes up so if your machine is set to automotive four cylinder you should set it to 2000-2200rpm. i hope this helps. pm with more ?
